Head to a protest today. I can almost promise you will feel less hopeless. That's exactly what they don't want. There are more of us than there are of them.

Sort of in relation to this. Compliments instead of just complaints for service. I texted my hairdresser after getting a cut last week, complimented on through video meetings with colleagues and she thanked me for that. Said she only rarely gets feedback of any kind, but usually negative, if any.
You should tell more people you’re proud of their accomplishments, no matter how big or small.

Kevin Levin on Trump’s attack on American history
Check out Levin's Substack post: "Trump's Assault on the NPS is Not a Disagreement Over History. It is an Attack on History Itself." Here is a taste: We need to stop framing this ongoing “review,” ordered by the Trump administration of the National Park Service’s interpretive assets, as a disagreement over history. Only one side in this story is engaged in the interpretation of American history and it is not the Trump administration...

Those in favor of it should all be ashamed of themselves.

Now is the time for folks to be working hard to help get @blakegendebien.bsky.social elected in 2026!
Let’s be clear: Stefanik hates this job. She’s not from NY-21. She loathes the people. She invested a decade of her life with one aim: to get ahead. House leadership, VP stakes, UN Amb nominee-all dashed to end up back in the job she hates.

She will be miserable and unbearable.

I’m disappointed for sure.
As some celebrate this news & gloat about karma finding Stefanik, I’m sorry for the people of Upstate NY and the North Country.

They deserve better than an absentee representative who has only ever cared about her future instead of theirs.

It would be a shame to encourage folks to use banned book lists to do strange things like
-check them out regularly at the library
-request the library order them if they don’t have them
-buy them
-start or support banned book clubs
-organize a banned book kids story time
A real shame

Stories hold us together. Stories teach us what is important about life, why we are here and how it is best to behave, and that inside us we have access to treasure, in memories and observations, in imagination.

I needed to see this today.
From @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social. "If you’re always consumed by the next outrage, you can’t look closely at the last one. The impression of Trump’s power remains; the fact that he keeps stepping on rakes is missed. The projection of strength obscures the reality of weakness. Don’t believe him."

There's such a tone of sadness to the CBC reporting right now. Adrienne Arsenault says, “I feel like the whole country, all of us, are getting both a history lesson and a politics lesson and an economics lesson and a lesson in heartache.”

Well done for making it to the end of January.

Stop whatever you're doing and read a book to reward yourself.

If you don't have a book, then buy one from an indie bookshop, that way you'll be making TWO people happy.

When I was 25 I was sad I had not written The Great American Novel. At 55, I realize there's no Great American Novel, there are merely the stories I'm the best person to tell. Don't worry about how others see greatness. Work on being the best version of who you are and what you can do in the world.
