This week I learned I’m the first woman and person of color from the University of Texas at Austin to have ever received the Pulitzer Prize gold medal for Public Service reporting.

When I realized that in UT’s Pulitzer Hall of Fame, I got chills.

My heart is so full after talking to classes of my former professors and fielding so many great questions about investigative reporting from UT-Austin students.

Yeah, there’s a lot to worry about in the US right now, but I’m optimistic about the next generation of journalists. 🙏🏽

I work remotely in the South for ProPublica and took part in a work walk out to call out management’s unfair dismissal of a bargaining committee member today and our stalled contract negotiations. (737 days!)

I did a zoom call and started laughing when I realized my dog snuck in behind me. I didn’t notice until the call started and she was like this.

Incredibly grateful to the nurses and surgeon, Dr. Voloyiannis, for removing my dad’s cancerous tumor and getting him healthy again. At a time when bad faith actors and even government officials are attacking and undermining medical professionals, we must show them our support. 🙏🏽
