Much Concern.

4k cameras are here although many of the birds have left at this point! Anyway here’s a blue jay and a chipmunk having an encounter.

today’s encounter.

My hip/si joint finally let me walk down to Holmes Run Trail and back for the first time in weeks. I had to do an alignment reset halfway through but hey, it’s progress.

Meanwhile these black vultures were betting against me.

Highly recommend volunteering for one of Four Mile Run Conservancy’s kayak clean-up events. It’s like getting a free kayak rental, as long as you pick up some trash along the way.

“Why it called pupcorn if not for pups?”

Happy “It’s your last day to winterize the garden” day to all those who celebrate.

Here are some late-fall pics.

Only thing better than a hermit thrush (besides a wood thrush) is … TWO hermit thrushes. Sound on for gentle splishing noises, unfortunately every time I downloaded the video the sound was out of sync and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it.
November 3, 2025 at 10:42 PM
One of these days it’s going to be a wood thrush. But not this day.

(hermit thrush, still an excellent birb).

Ok this is easily the most exciting thing I’ve caught on the bird bath cams, even more exciting than the hermit thrush.

Content warning: Circle of life!

Bath hog:

I’ve been enjoying my new bird bath cameras but immediately wishing I had forked over the cash to get some with higher resolution. Anyway here are three birds sharing nicely (they don’t always, sometimes the robins are total bath hogs).

BOOINGNGING. (Ruby-crowned kinglet on its bullshit* again)

*not holding still.

Day one and caught a thrush (probably a hermit thrush) using the fountain. Never noticed a thrush visiting the fountain before! Unfortunately the camera missed a ruby-crowned kinglet that also visited.

Bird cams are GO. Cue birds.

I appreciate Del Ray Artisans Nature Journaling Club for sometimes being the only thing that keeps me practicing. No more meet ups until January so I might have to exercise some self-discipline on my own.

Other fall things, less thematic.

I really think fall wild petunia is an overlooked delight.
