#Geochemistry Strontium in seawater through deep time 🧪⚒️

Strontium has several stable isotopes. One of them is Sr-87, which is formed by the radioactive decay of Rb-87, an isotope with a super long half-life of 4.92*10^10 years. Today seawater has the same Sr-87/Sr-86 ratio everywhere,

⚒🟢 #MineralMonday Emeralds from the Franqueira Mine, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
#Emeralds are rare, valuable minerals famously used in jewellery. They are a variety of beryl (Be3Al2(SiO3)6) with trace amounts of chromium, which give them their green colour.

Let’s start with some #paleontology Eurohippus messelensis from the Natural History Museum of Vienna. This species is an early member of the horse family from the Messel Formation, Early-Middle Eocene transition of Hesse, Germany.
