My last federal job was as a senior official in DHS Intelligence.
If it was that office feeding the White House the line that “No Kings” is violent, Marxist, terrorist, and foreign-funded — they should be ashamed.
But I know the people there. Far more likely: the White House just made it up.

So when Trump says he "has a deal," it does not mean he has reached a deal, but that he has offered a deal. Like when you say "Here's the Deal!" Like this:

During the Carolina hurricanes in 2024 I worked at DHS, and got a tour of their OPS Center in action. It was amazing, and I was so proud to be part of a Government that cared, and was able to turn caring into action. Efficient, effective and apolitical. I miss that so much.

Understand, but MAGA has taken the Flag, the word "Patriot," and the word "American" and seized them for there own. I am not giving them any of that to them, including the "thumbs up."

DHS was built with intentionally gears which do not completely mesh. Separate components with coercive powers kept apart to prevent the creation of a huge, powerful, domestic paramilitary force, turning DHS into an American "Ministry of Interior." Sometimes inefficiency protects democracy.

Exactly, except I would change the word "petty." Disagreements within our democracy are not at all petty. Which is why we want them decided through a rule-of-law, Constitutional, process. That is what is at stake. We are in a post partisan world -- substack.com/@steadystate...

Yes, concerning. Very concerning. The key is that the SF-86 is what STARTS the security clearance background, not an interim step. I have know a bit about security clearances, and have never, ever, heard of an applicant for a position which requires security clearances not filling out an SF86
