According to the NY Times, the donor is part of the Mellon family. I think I learned in US history about a time when the US govt had to borrow from JP Morgan and Andrew Carnegie. I don't think it was a good time for America, and I think that period led directly to the Sherman and Clayton AT Acts.

It helps when a private donor (read: Mellon) kicks in $130 million to pay the military. I forget: the last time rich men loaned the government money (Morgan, Carnegie), was that a prosperous time for America as a whole, or just some Americans?

Agreed it was probably ignorance rather than malice. People still can't seem to grasp the lengths to which an unstable narcissist will go to avoid jail time and grab more money. They can't imagine doing the same themselves and apply their own limits to him, so they continue to get surprised.

It partially explains why he is so good at mirroring back what people want him to be. Like a hole that can never be filled.

Finally you guys are focused on messaging. Trump doesn't need to negotiate because he is so far out ahead of you guys in that area. Have someone game plan what an amoral man would do if their only goals were staying out of jail and amassing more money. Then you might outflank him in the future.

I think they are constantly reacting to Trump because they have no one at the DNC whose job it is to game plan. Have someone who will lay out all the likely actions for someone who is motivated by (1) making as much money as possible, and (2) staying out of jail. And doesn't play by rules.
