Extra- Terrestrial: Thematized Space in the Americas This course begins with the premise of the alien: landscapes, people, artifacts, language. people or places that are or this we encounter things, Survey a diverse range of expressive cultural material from Latina/o/x America such as travelogues, film, advertising, architecture, and artwork to question the categories of the alien,tourist, and the local. Class readings by Latinx and Latin American Studies scholars on Disenyland, cultural heritage, gentrification, and the X-files will guide our investigation through the intersections of tourism, architecture, and the production and popularity of “alien” environments in the Americas.

this fancy school has a beautiful resource called The Common Press and I got to go to a workshop today and we wrote a poem together. we each set our own line and printed! Jessica, the director, is also extremely rad.
A collaborative poem full of typos! A pink poster that reads “ YOUR DREAMS ARE OUR DREAMS! We’re in this together!” Some letters set! I forgot the name of this here doodad A pamphlet that explains and affirms how everyone can print in 5 simple steps. My fave line is “a complete, easily understood instruction book goes with every outfit”

Last week in NM adventures: today, we went to the Art Vault, or the coolest gallery in Santa Fe and I cried at Robert Mosse’s “Broken Spectre(s)” a chilling and gorgeous film about ecological violence in Brazil. There were also many powerful GIS maps taken with an infrared drone camera
José Porfirio, Rio Xingu, Pará 2021 archival pigment print 83 x 208.5 x 2.5 in The town of Senador José Porfirio, known locally as Souzel, lies on the Xingu River. This extremely biodiverse river is a major tributary of the Amazon River and home to numerous Indigenous tribes and communities. Souzel is comprised of many sawmills that process vast quantities of tropical hardwoods culled from the rainforest, almost all of it illegally. With military support, IBAMA, Brazil's environmental protection agency, raided the town of Senador José Porfirio only a few days before this map was made. Fiscal penalties were made, but they are never properly enforced and rarely paid. A luxury residence with a pool and private jetty can be seen situated between two sawmills at the center left of the map, an example of the profits enjoyed by some involved in the illegal logging industry. José Porfirio de Souza (1912 - 1973), after whom the town was named, was a leader of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST), a militant Communist movement. He disappeared during the years of the Brazilian military regime. Sawmill, Rondônia 2020 archival pigment print 63.125 x 139.5 x 2.5 in A typical sawmill in the Amazon Basin where illegally felled wood is laundered with quantities of legally certified timber. In this image, more intense blues indicate freshly harvested wood, while the paler blue, yellow, or white sections denote older timber. According to research, 95-98% of timber harvesting in the Amazon is a precursor to forest clearance and conversion to ranch and pastureland. One of the most prized neotropical hardwoods is ipe, which commands extremely high prices on international export markets, particularly in the United States, driving illegal and unsustainable harvesting in remote forests, such as those in Rondônia. A moving car, driving into the sawmill, is depicted as truncated, an artifact created by the drone's movements and the orthographic stitching software. The car's truncated hood can be seen in one area and its body in another. The coloring in this image illustrates the age of the felled wood. The more intense blues indicate recently harvested wood, while the paler blue and yellow/white sections denote wood cut down less recently. You can also see traces of blue and yellow sawdust from milling these respective logs. The hazy quality of this photo is due to the fact that it was taken at dusk. Because of the illicit nature of the sawmill, Mosse had to work covertly.

Screenshot of Reddit post OP: Anyone having problems with their magic lately I've been experimenting with some stuff and been having emergency vehicles put their sirens on; often a sign someone with a sigil is getting upset. I try not to converse with people through sonic vibrations and since the whole thing is so hush hush I have no way of knowing if their upset is legitimate or simply gas lighting. Is anyone having trouble with magic they normally do? You can DM me if you are and are uncomfortable talking about it openly. REPLY: Yes. l've been having the exact same problems
