It should be obvious by now that free speech in incredibly unequal societies is not a useful aim

Without a level playing field, some voices are far louder and some far easier to shut down

Free speech can only be worthwhile if it's accompanied by radical reform of our public space to democratise it

The internet is not a monolith. But what I have felt the entire week (and what I felt last week writing about the MN shooter's viral video) is that so many people are dedicated to having the highest stakes conversations and fights about crucially important things in the worst possible venues.
