I suppose I once thought
that pretending
was what children do
to entertain themselves
and actors do
to entertain others
and that everyone else
must wrestle with
and live in
the world as it is.
I was wrong.

You elected a treasonous felon
You bought the nonsense he was sellin’
And now we all suffer
Because this rank duffer
Navigated weak minds like Magellan

There indeed is a national emergency
Needing tended to with great urgency
It’s not down at the border
But in D.C. there’s disorder
That calls for a rational insurgency

The world laughs at our nation, the fool cried
Then he vowed to soon end our backslide
But the world wasn’t tittering
’Til he began his daft twittering
Now the mocking, it may never subside

I don’t know how the optimists do it
How they can possibly fail to intuit
The deep flaws in our race
That for millennia we’ve faced
Like they knew it, said screw it, then blew it

Is American democracy unsinkable?
Only a fool would think it unthinkable
Now it’s bound to go down
At the hands of a clown
Whose Kool-Aid was shockingly drinkable
