Former teacher& school leader. Wife, mum, cat feeder. Now enjoying life in a beautiful part of the world. Love learning watercolour painting, walking, crime fiction & exploring
In art lesson today we looked at abstract winter landscapes. The technique I liked was dropping water onto the trees. I may have overdone that bit 😂

Trying to loosen up and not use all the paper. Saw a painting by Ian Ramsay where he used a vignette style so I had a go. Reminded me of North Lodge on the edge of the heathland in soft autumn light. Looks like my lodge has serious subsidence 😂

End of autumn. Green and gold and distant blue. Beautiful 😊

A calm grey gold autumn day before the rain

After Simon Cowper’s demo on style used by Peter Cronin-trying to say more with less and work on shadows. Also really sinking in that darks need to be left until last 😊

@chrisstephenart.bsky.social had a go at the big sky. Love doing these. The glazing at the end for the shadows was tricky for me. What you said about not coveting it all up. Forgot that bit! Lots of brilliant learning 😊

@chrisstephenart.bsky.social really enjoyed learning how to do this lovely heading into winter scene. My trees grew away a bit. Thanks so much for a great lesson 😊

I do love autumn 😊

Another great demo from @chrisstephenart.bsky.social I’d been struggling to paint a picture of autumn tree on the heathland local to me and he only went and did a fab demo on patreon. Key message simplify and support the focal point. I need to get better at tonal values. Next aim 😊

😁 just finished golden tree. Loved it. Studied your painting carefully. How you connect all the shapes and adjust tone/vary colour is really amazing. You manage to get so much really good stuff into one demo. Impression, focal point, supporting cast. So helpful. Here’s my effort-my bin was full!

As much a book about people, love and life as the twists and turns of the plot. I laughed and was moved by the gang in equal measure. Loved it 😊

Have read all the department Q books and this one was a brilliant twist. But what does the future hold for one of my favourite detectives and team 🤷‍♀️

So taken by this painting by @chrisstephenart.bsky.social and the lesson that I had another go. Think I got the cottage better this time 😊 learnt that loose watercolour does not have to be fast and loose. Phew!

Very much enjoyed the mindfulness of trying this lovely watercolour from a lesson by @chrisstephenart.bsky.social on Patreon. A beautiful way to paint although the Norfolk cottage challenged me! Need another go as lost some of the delicate colouring 😊

The Final Vow @mwcraven.bsky.social is 🤩

I think I prefer this one- less styled and more focus on yellow tree

@chrisstephenart.bsky.social had a go at the heathland on the common. Everything you taught us in lessons flew out my head! Tried to get the golden tree in!! So much I would do differently but this is about the fifth go so giving up!!

When you head to the bathroom and find it’s already occupied 🙄

This was another one I liked-just love silver birches!
October 9, 2025 at 9:54 PM
That would be awesome! I love the light shining on the autumn trees and the dark around them and the soft sky. I’ve had a few goes and overdid the sky which took away from the autumn gold and wasn’t sure how to simplify the foreground as it’s all about the silver birches lit up in the sun 🤦🏻‍♀️

Absolutely loved doing this demo from @chrisstephenart.bsky.social on Patreon. So many brilliant techniques explained so well and just such an atmospheric landscape to get lost in. First go, lots to improve on but such fun 😊

I thought the last book by @mwcraven.bsky.social was the best crime book I’d read but then he only goes and writes this. Just brilliant. The man’s a genius 🤩

Bliss 😊

This was a big challenge! Great demo by @chrisstephenart.bsky.social on patreon on how to paint an impressionistic mountain scene. Defo out my comfort zone but huge learning-especially around the relationship between brush, paint and water
