Such a poignant picture and a reminder of my pals and fellow 70's children, what a lovely capture by Nick Hedges.
Wean's world...

Saddened to hear of the death of Nick Hedges; the work he did with the charity, Shelter, in Glasgow in the early 70, is haunting.

Captures an evolution of a city. Have a wonderful residency in Portugal.
My application has been accepted for a residency in July in Portugal. Not been before and quite excited.

Last Easter Sunday I climbed to the top of Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh…

The earliest known cat door, located at Exeter Cathedral in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧, dates from around 1598 AD. The owners of the cats were paid a penny a week as early as 1305 AD, to help control mice and protect the cathedral from pests.

'Dandelions,' was painted by the Danish artist Bertha Wegmann around 1910. It wasn't an arbitrary choice of a plant to paint: the dandelion was used to promote the women’s liberation movement in Scandinavia because of its capacity for uncontrolled, strong-willed growth.

Have come to the conclusion that art galleries need to open on particular days for selfies, and on other days for those who want to look at the art - regardless it was a lovely trip to the #Mauritshuis, and while Girl with a Pearl Evening was in huge photo demand, I was here for all the rest...

Food security should be taken much more seriously, we need to build resilience, especially in such uncertain times, the UK is an island, if our option to import food is cut off, due to climate change, trade wars, military action etc. then we would be really scunnered!

Lovely, I immediately thought of Monet - he loved a grey day in London when he was painting around the early 1900's quote from an FT w/e article sep 24 on my desk '"there's no land more extraordinary for a painter"

Oh Emilie, how to live a life!
"So she did what any one of us would do in that situation: she stripped down to her underwear and challenged the head of the King’s household guards to a duel."

Saw some great drawing today at the Royal Scottish Academy - Durer to Van Dyke - the drawing of Roelant Savery (Thatched Dwellings) and Wenceslaur Hollar (the public execution) where quite something...
Few better evocations of the purity of drawing than this sheet by Raphael, c.1505, currently on display in the Royal Academy’s excellent Michelangelo, Raphael & Leonardo exhibition.

Hello and good morning.

Let's start Friday with something beautiful. Here is Ukrainian painter David Burliuk's 'Planting Rice' (1920, oil on burlap). You can see it on display at New York City’s remarkable Ukrainian Museum.
