That the UK - one of the architects of this fund, designed to save the world’s forests - is now refusing to put any money into it is frankly shameful. Starmer’s claim that he still continues to back the fund is meaningless without resources - so much for climate leadership

Really enjoyed chatting with @rory-stewart.bsky.social about his brilliant new book #Middleland - a hymn to the beauty of Cumbria, testament to the spirit of its people & powerful call for democratic reform - oh & we covered a new role for the EU & the horror of Trump too @intelligence2.bsky.social

The war on drugs clearly isn’t working. We need an urgent review of the 50 year old Misuse of Drugs Act, & to start treating drug addiction as a health issue rather than a criminal one, & get drugs out of the hands of criminal gangs #Newsnight

Making the case for wealth taxes on @SkyNewsPolitics just now. Rumours that Chancellor might seek yet more spending cuts are horrifying - public services are already on their knees & top 50 richest families in UK now hold more wealth than the poorest half of the population - over 34 million people.

Thanks to my fab panel @chrisgpackham.bsky.social @elliechowns.bsky.social Naomi Luhde Thompson for making such a powerful case against Government assault on communities & natural world thro its planning “reforms” - the real housing crisis is one of affordability not planning #gpconf

Brilliant speech from @zackpolanski.bsky.social - investing in climate, stopping the boats thro safe & legal routes, introducing a wealth tax on the very wealthiest, challenging privatisation, building community & spreading a #PoliticsOfHope @greenparty.org.uk #gpconf

.@TheGreenParty now has more members than ever before. In these dangerous times, people are desperate for a party that speaks truth to power, has courage of its convictions & will take on the far Right.
There's never been a better time to join our movement join.greenparty.org.uk

Honoured to speak at today’s rally in #Nagasaki on 80th anniversary of US dropping nuclear bomb which killed over 70,000 by the end of 1945 & tens of thousand more since then. Shamefully our own Government continues to drive nuclear proliferation, making the world more dangerous @cnduk.bsky.social

One quick thing to do to help keep us all #SAFER from impacts of climate breakdown? Please sign & share @climatemajority.bsky.social petition urging government to invest more in #climate adaptation. 100,000 signatures triggers likely debate in parliament 🤞 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/73...

📣It’s today! Good luck to everyone coming to the #MassLobby of Parliament for a greener, fairer, healthier future. Remember, 89% of people want stronger action on climate #WeAreTheMajority
Look forward to seeing you there!#ActNowChangeForever

When ministers talk about “tough decisions”, it’s usually code for doing something really bad to people who’re already struggling. No-one voted Labour expecting them to push more disabled people into poverty, to slash foreign aid or be complicit in Gaza genocide. Me for #bbcaq👇

A real privilege to be speaking with writer & activist @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social
at #Brighton Festival today: “Hope is an embrace of the unknown & unknowable…it’s the belief that what we do matters even tho how & when it may matter, who & what it may impact, are not things you can know beforehand”
May 26, 2025 at 10:28 PM
Beyond excited to have the chance to be in conversation with such an amazing writer & thinker whose work is so enormously important. Hopefully will get over my starstruck speechlessness by then 🤞🤣

I’m backing Ellie & Adrian for @greenparty.org.uk led by MPs with a national platform, a track record of overturning electoral odds & the ability to speak to all - a team committed to bringing the party together, facing down the far right & championing urgent nature & climate action

Happy St George's Day! This should be a day everyone in England can celebrate together, whatever our backgrounds & whether born here or not. All too often Englishness is hijacked by the Right. My recent book, #AnotherEngland, is my attempt to start to try to take it back🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

This #EarthDay2025 seems a good moment to share some Gerard Manley Hopkins:
“What would the world be, once bereft
Of wet and of wildness? Let them be left,
O let them be left, wildness and wet;
Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet”

As @oxfamgb.bsky.social makes clear, Israel’s decision to block aid to over 2 million Palestinians Gaza is “a reckless act of collective punishment, and is explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law”. Full Oxfam statement here: oxfam.org.uk/mc/yf84ug/

Many thanks to all at Penguin for marking paperback publication day for #AnotherEngland today! penguin.co.uk/books/453710/a

It’s real!
Excited that the paperback of #AnotherEngland is out on 20 Feb - with a new chapter on how the Labour Govt needs to offer meaningful change & tell a far more inspiring, compelling story, if it’s to see off the threat posed by the increasingly populist Right penguin.co.uk/books/453710/a…
