UK based artist making things about Moby-Dick, British Arctic Whaling, S Atlantic whaling research and other museum inspired shenanigans. Projects with museums a speciality - DM me if you’ve got an idea! Current obsession - the Continuous Plankton Recorder
A little side project/work in progress working up ideas from my various visits to Shetland. This is Bressay Lighthouse (where I stayed from a month in 2017). The shape is inspired by the architecture of the Shetland Museum and Archive.

Excellent spooky cappuccino in Ori, Milton Keynes today!

Assuming my coffee wasn’t actually haunted… 👻

Finally sussed how to do this net-like blanket stitch. First go, and with variegated thread to complicate matters! Pleased with the result.

Mostly padded satin stitch today, on an abstract water coloured cotton calico. Felt particularly good putting the last few stitches on the ring which was particularly fiddly! Several more to do tomorrow #HandEmbroidery

This weekend’s #BeadWeaving with two sizes of two blues and a rather lovely pale rose colour.

Looks great on the light box!

I don’t abandon things very often but this fabric is horrible to sew so I’m leaving this walrus as it is.

Doing some more work on this A3 textile piece today. Sorting the top right corner with the blue #TransferDye background. Padded #SatinStitch and #FrenchKnots then remembered these lovely clear coloured beads secured with Y stitches also used elsewhere in the piece. #HandEmbroidery

Current long running #WorkInProgress #HabdEmbroidery based on a #TransferDye background. I’m gradually building up the structure and composition as I go. Enjoying the process very much (at the moment anyway!)

Most of my exhibition/collaboration opportunities have come directly or indirectly through social media including a research residence at this lighthouse on Shetland

I’m struggling with #beadweaving some happy/sad faced beads. But I’m delighted that these two have found each other.

Walking from Creswell Crags to the Harley Collection just now.

Finished my lovely #HandEmbroidered 1579 #Walrus from the illustration in the exhibition at #Aberdeen Art Gallery. Stitching the gaps between the stripes and scallops has really transformed it.

Forgot to post these squirrels from this mornings walk. Lots of noisy squirrels this morning.

This is a sample from a while ago that didn’t really work overall but enough time has passed for me to appreciate the bits that did. The digitally printed image is from a jar containing a jelly from @noc.ac.uk and the #HandEmbroidery is all mine!
