Naming a building after yourself in the name of peace you have never embodied, forged, or effectively impacted in a program you unlawfully defunded and dismantled (and are currently pending Congressional legal actions after being sued for unconstitutionality) is bonkers.

I’m in a red state at a teaching social action institute and I have to say, the faculty around me are having some very familiar conversations that I had when living in GA. I can’t express enough how grateful I am that these are not the same realities I have to face to the same extent anymore.

As a researcher who centers gun violence in their work, I’m never surprised when the public conversation about violence involves humanizing its impact seems to only happen when a conservative figure is the victim. When it’s kids, Black, immigrant, or trans* folx the narrative is somewhat different.
