Carnegie Endowment Workers Alliance
@carnegieworkers.bsky.social
The Carnegie Endowment Workers Alliance (CEWA) represents the organized workers of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Our goal is to ensure an equitable and transparent workplace for our bargaining unit. https://npeu.org/carnegie
We won our union. Now what? Over the coming weeks, CEWA will elect our bargaining committee, survey members, and gear up to negotiate our first contract. This is when we lock in the priorities that matter most to us. Stay tuned! The real work (and real power) begins...✊️💜

We are thrilled to announce that with an 87% majority voting in favor, CEWA won our union. We are proud to stand together in our commitment to improving our workplace and look forward to working with management to swiftly negotiate a collective bargaining agreement. @npeu.bsky.social

When managers hint that people might lose opportunities if they join a union, they’re using a union-busting staple. The truth is that we will bargain to secure and improve growth opportunities for all. Our contract is what we make it! 1/3

Member testimonial! ✨️ I am unionizing to create an environment that levels the playing field for my colleagues at Carnegie. Transparency is the first step in building trust and, in the long run, a community. Everyone deserves to feel safe and seen despite their rank or background.

It’s no secret that by speaking up together, we can accomplish more than one colleague could on their own. CEWA will enable us to negotiate for fairer wages and benefits and give us a voice in our workplace, while preserving what we love.

Yesterday, CEWA and Brookings United joined forces for pizza, pups, and solidarity. As we gear up for an election in two short weeks, we’re grateful for support and solidarity from our @ifpte.bsky.social siblings who share their union wins and remind us of all that we can achieve!

Member testimonial! ✨️ I'm choosing to unionize because of how nice life has been at Carnegie so far for me as a newer employee. Unions are all about making sure that the benefits and culture that you enjoy and motivate you to come to work every day are a guarantee 1/2

It's better in a union! 📣 Organizations like Carnegie have won great changes through collective bargaining. For inspiration, read improvements to layoff and recall policies that our sister unions have won.

As our union becomes more rooted in our workplace, it's natural that it comes up in conversation. We've heard a few misunderstandings floating around, so we're breaking things down in a myth vs fact format. @ifpte.bsky.social @carnegieendowment.org @npeu.bsky.social

CEWA members are sharing why they’re standing together in a union. “I’m choosing to unionise because unions make workplaces safer and more egalitarian spaces for all employees. And we should all want spaces where we spend one-third of our lives in to be safer for all.”

CEWA’s first Labor Day! As we fight for the recognition of our inclusive union, we are grateful for support and solidarity with our fellow workers at the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO as well as @nonprofitunion.bsky.social @ifpte.bsky.social

This Labor Day weekend, CEWA organizing members joined @nonprofitunion.bsky.social @ifpte.bsky.social and more to show solidarity with working people everywhere. Amid our ongoing push for recognition, we are reminded: Together, we bargain. Divided, we beg.

CEWA members are sharing why they’re standing together in a union. "I support unions because they give workers a collective voice and ensure fairness in the workplace. They fight for better pay, safer conditions, and benefits that improve lives." 1/2

As someone just getting started here, I care about building a workplace where we can all be open, feel respected, and have real transparency around pay and promotions. I want to know that as I grow in this job, I’m doing so in a fair and supportive environment, and that’s why I’m unionizing.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS Management cannot prohibit us from talking about the union during working time if it permits us to talk about other non-work-related matters during working time. If you can talk about the Nats game, you can talk about CEWA.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. The National Labor Relations Act protects your right to wear union buttons, stickers, T-shirts, and to decorate your desk to show your CEWA pride.

We had our first CEWA town hall this week and celebrated with some delicious ice cream afterward. We were joined by our amazing friends from Brookings United, IFPTE, and NPEU who shared their own unionizing experiences and discussed the improvements that they have seen firsthand thanks to unions.

We’ve been talking and listening, and these are just a few of the priorities we share as CEWA members:

RECOGNIZE NOW! We stand ready to work with management and meet at the bargaining table. But over a month later, we still do not have a commitment from Carnegie to voluntarily recognize our union. With a supermajority of eligible employees signing their union cards, they have no reason to stall.
