One of Frey’s strengths as a politician is portraying himself as a victim of circumstance while being anything but. Some of our door knockers encountered Frey voters who voted for him in part because they “felt sorry for him.”

This is a rule in a lot of restaurants I worked in. They do not pay these poor people enough to make them do this.

And Fateh is no Mamdani. Even if he were, Mamdani had more money than could spend and the entire NYC-based national news media amplifying his campaign.

I tried explaining this on doors, but I honestly don’t think people want to understand it. IMO, a lot of folks are still very much in their feelings about 2020 with no intention to self-reflect any time soon.

It’s a very frustrating sleight of hand. He won strong mayor, on top of the fact that he already had full control of the police department and public safety, then feigns helplessness in the face of a “unreasonable” progressive council and his voters eat it up.
