I research history, citizenship, identity & belonging at the UAlberta. Landlocked Bluenoser trying to get back to the ocean. 🌊
@cpeck3 at that other place.
The year I started going to concerts… and now, off to Toronto to repeat the OC (original concert) 40 years later!

It’s a beautiful day for the HEIRNET pre-conference event organized by @thinkhist.bsky.social, “What is the future of historical thinking?”! A wonderful group of history education scholars from 21 countries will engage with this question throughout the day. @ualbertaed.bsky.social

It’s Mother’s Day in Canada and the US (it was last Sunday in Spain) so last Sunday and this Sunday I’ve been thinking about my Mom and my Grandmothers, but also about all those for whom Mother’s Day is a challenging day. Sending hugs from afar (if you want one).

and then linking the smaller pieces of the artifacts puzzle to a larger mystery they had to solve, kept them engaged and curious.

The difference-maker was this ingredient: tomate frito (tomatoes, olive oil, sugar, salt, garlic). H/T to @drloisweiner.bsky.social for telling me about this product. It provided a depth of flavour that the sauce I buy in Canada doesn’t have. I hope I can find this product in Edmonton!

I’m so sick of the “All Albertans” takes I’m seeing… “[All] Albertans are stupid, want to separate, etc.” A third of the electorate (34%) voted for either the Liberals or the NDP in the 2025 federal election.

I’m spending my sabbatical in València, Spain, which also figures prominently in Andor this season. Fun!

Our tour of Sicily is off to a fantastic start: “In life, you have to choose to be happy or you have to choose to be skinny” - says our guide Mariarita as she explains the typical foods of the island, including this scrumptious cookie. It’s going to be a fun day! 😋

I recognize the “I left it until the last minute to study for the exam” excuse that is oozing from this.

And I’m a Habs fan!

Crowds are gathering for La Cremà, or the burning of all of the Las Fallas monuments, marking the end of the almost month-long festival in València. Ironically, many of the Polystyrene sculptures, which can be up to 50’ tall, comment on climate change/the environment. And yet, they burn.

Arrived back home in València to find this beauty in the plaza around the corner. My first Las Fallas sculpture! Looking forward to discovering many more throughout the city during the final week of Las Fallas! 💥 💣 💥 🧨 💥
