Careers Consultant in Higher Education, but interested in far too many things including history, ethics, biology, politics, philosophy, psychology, geography, public health, pedagogy and so much more. I tend not to post much.
I read this as the latest 'defecation' from Tories to reform! Which actually seems a more appropriate word to use!

It's also plainly unworkable, as marking and creating a summary for 100 essays according the rubric in 2 weeks is unworkable. I suspect someone typed "give an example of how Copilot can help academics save time marking" into Copilot and no-one then did a sense check of the nonsense it spat out.

This animation seems to be a Moray eel. Do you think about the different species of eel, or just the ones eaten historically in the UK/Europe?

I take offence to where this slide is.

It's so jarring, when most of the business model is to hype up headlines to sell papers/advertising and yet they only seem to do this when punching down.

Yes. And yes. But I'm biased because I am one myself.
Like in any profession, you get good and bad coaches, but a good one can be hugely useful.

If you'd like to try again at some point with someone who won't be an arsehole about things, let me know. I'd be happy to have a careers chat with you. (for free, to prove not all careers people are uncaring and incompetent)

As a Careers Consultant with 16 years experience, I can tell you that this is inexcusable. Being non-judgemental and having an unconditional positive regard for your clients is the foundation of good practice. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Students often don't understand that the learning, the knowledge, the understanding and critical skills they are gaining is what gets them into a job. Not the piece of paper saying they have a degree. Bypassing the "learning about history" by getting AI to do their thinking is so counterproductive!

Got it! I look forward to listening!

Great! I'm told by a friend that the book is fantastic. I'll order it now!

This might be a daft question, but is it available as an audio book? Or are there lots of pictures of maps which would mean it wouldn't work as well in audio?

No idea how toxic they are, but my wife and I were in Jaipur during Holi a few years ago and my skin was purple and green for about a week.

Any Labour SpAd arguing for restricting student imm should be sat down in front of a map and asked three Qs:
1. Where do you think the unis in most financial trouble are?
2. How many people rely on them for jobs and income?
3. Which party represents these seats?

For other countries which are likely to experience a negative economic impact from Trump's actions, could there be an opportunity to leverage this crisis as a way to move towards degrowth sustainably, or is it unlikely as extra investment may be needed initially to move to a healthy degrowth?

This list of cuts in HE seems to be indicating the last option sadly. qmucu.org/qmul-transfo... I've not seen any evidence that the government are looking at higher fees or more central funding, and they are now actively limiting international students, so they must be going for the last option.

Main cause seems to be: changing demographics - fewer people paying taxes compared to the number of older people needing healthcare and pensions. Why are they only saying they will reduce what we give to those who are in need, rather than ask for more money from those who are super wealthy?
