I'm trying to figure out how to make that Earthbound following mechanic in Godot for this Neoquest II clone.
I'm not quite there yet but I felt like a GENIUS by coming up with this close-enough solution so far.

I didn't grow up with SMW, but I did grow up with the PC fan-game "SMW X - Yoshi's Rescue".
At the end of each level we got a Star, and to this day I remember being SHOCKED by the twist that Bowser robbed all of Mario's stars to become huge. Edge of the seat stuff.

Years ago, after of hours of boredom trying to figure out how to beat the last level of Prince of Persia 2, I fidget with the controls only to find out a hidden mechanic - that only exists in that level - that is required to beat the whole thing.
