Me: <exhausted, trying to sleep>

Brain: ...okay but what if Old Man Shran shows up on the SNW Enterprise to one-up Carbon Creek by revealing that first contact was actually with Vikings, and that's why Vulcans, Tellarites, and Andorians are basically Elves, Dwarves, and Frost Giants? 👀

Watching a random Enterprise episode for insomnia reasons — it's such a shame we never got to see Ambassador V'Lar again. Her backstory with the Andorians would have been great in the Babel / Coalition arcs, she should have wound up Shran so much (and actively enjoyed doing so)!

Another cool birthday with a Trek connection for today is Albert Scott Crossfield. He was one of America's first hypersonic test pilots during the early days of the space race, and is who the Crossfield-class is named after.

Also, felicitations to my favourite Captain and one of the coolest people I share a birthday with, Avery Brooks.

Hopefully one day I will have the opportunity to shake your hand and thank you for all the comfort and inspiration you have provided over the years. I would not be me without you.

I am officially number of minutes you can maintain an active wormhole years old, I guess that's kinda neat.

What movie do you consider perfect?

Ranking Enterprise at #2? 👀

(excellent taste)

Wait, you mean the notoriously American thing that most other countries don't do turns out to maybe not be the best way of doing things?

Gasp. 😱

It's a good job that this definitely doesn't apply to anything else about the United States.

I am too sporadic at movie watching to do this every week, but...

Sense8.

A rare example of a short-lived show that stuck the landing on its ending (by focusing on characters rather than the plot), but boy howdy do I miss crying my eyes out over those characters.

Shout out to Strange New Worlds for trying to speed run this time honoured Trek tradition.
September 4, 2025 at 4:47 PM
Have said this before at the other place, but the existence of a last-minute left field Season 7 romance means that Friends counts as a Star Trek show.

I know everyone wants a(nother) Superman/Batman team-up, but I hope they fight that urge and go with Green Arrow instead. Robin Hood versus the Boy Scout has a lot more nuance to it, boxing glove arrows are a perfect fit for the established vibes, and Guy would HATE having Hal's bestie around.

You could argue that they doubled down on it in Picard, too, with the shapes behind the Delta representing the two quadrants, again with the correct asymmetry.
July 10, 2025 at 11:11 PM
My retcon headcanon is that the Starfleet delta is a (very) simple/stylised representation of Federation space. It is (correctly) lopsided on the Alpha Quadrant side, pointing up towards the galactic core with the left leg pointing towards Cait/Pacifica and the right towards Betelgeuse.

Just watched A Minecraft Movie. Not a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch, but it had the energy of a nostalgic reboot made by people who clearly love the source material, and I can get behind that.

6/10 hunger drumsticks?

Watched Insurrection today, and this quiet little moment at the end where Jean-Luc makes sure to reunite one of the Son'a with the mother he's not seen in a century hits so much different after everything we learned from the Picard show. 🥲

Just watched The Undiscovered Country (my favourite). I could watch this a hundred more times and still find something new to love.

Today my heart is fixated on how big the Excelsior is in that finale shot, when TNG had already shown how small it was next to the Galaxy. Love that scale creep.

Watching Search For Spock tonight. I know the books gave a name to the kid that Uhura pulls a gun on, but my harmless/fun headcanon is that he's a young John Harriman, and that he did get his adventures after all.

I'm just saying, if you want a nemesis for Kirk who plays into themes of age and obsolescence, gives a blisteringly good performance, and quotes literature like an absolute boss, please direct your attention a few movies to your right.

Couldn't sleep, so I watched The Wrath of Khan.

I love so much about this movie, but it bugs the heck out of me that Khan doesn't actually do anything. Superior intellect my ass, you are just lucky and a nepo baby, and people only like you for your soft and supple bosom.

Watching Twin Peaks (for the first time), when I suddenly realised that the tie being worn by the pie-loving protagonist was very familiar...
