For some reason, a Level 1 <Blank> deer spawns in Coerthas Western Highlands. This patch had absolutely nothing going on in nor near Ishgard so it just randomly appeared. The prevailing theory is that it's an unfinished Beastmaster Mob that will spawn in that section of the overworld.

Love how it's always "We can make games faster and get them out in under a year!" but it's never "We can make the game better".

Sure it's objectively worse than what we're putting out but DUDE it's fast! We're still charging $80 for it though. Ahem.

I think all 8.0 needs is a really strong hook. One of the things that hurt DT (and one of the things Yoshi P called out) is that there was zero build-up. Supposedly 7.5 will be "a whirlwind" patch (Whatever that means) that sets the stage for 8.0

Pat's feelings on it have changed. Basically the further distant he's been from playing it, the more he's come to be negative on it.

I think the last patch he got up to was like 7.2? He said he'd play when he has more time but it seems that the longer away he's been, the less excited he's been.

I had to explain to my mom when she was playing a bunch of free mobile games:

Epic did offer a free games every week or so but again that's how far you have to go to compete with steam...and even then, why would I -ever- get rid of steam? Most of my games are on here and they don't transfer so throwing away steam is the equivalent to burning a few thousand dollars.

If it were more like WoW where alts aplenty yeah I get you but XIV? Way harder sell.

Though my gut feeling is 8.0 will let you start in DT if you want as a new adventurer and ARR-EW will have a recap questline detailing the former WoL's ventures. (Easier to do if you make a new character)

As sensible as it'd be to close off John Endwalker's story and start anew it's suicide to take away an MMO player's main and tell them "They died you cant use them anymore" ESPECIALLY when XIV puts such heavy emphasis on playing one single character.

Also paid games have to compete with massive f2p giants like Fortnite, Roblox, etc.

Dropping ~$10 on a battlepass or a skin for a game you're going to play every day you get home from work for free is a lot easier than spending $60+ on a 40 hour RPG.

Unfortunately that is what MMOs have devolved into. Getting into Legion Remix raids on higher difficulties (A 4-fun mode where everyone has turbo-powered stuff) still has people rejecting for not having a big enough number so they can blitz through this content ASAP.

I wouldn't even call it an RPG at this point people want to treat the game as a 15/month visual novel with a bonus post-novel chatroom.

14's reward system in general is the #1 thing that needs an overhaul. DT has improved some aspects but everything is too damn easy to get and stuff that's hard to get sucks. The 4-seater mount in Golden Saucer costs 4 million mgp. The 4-seater OC mount...can be gotten in like 1 afternoon of grinding

On this topic, 8.0's goal is apparently to reduce the homogenization 14's undergone since ShB onward. Do you believe they can do it because EVERY space I've been in has had zero faith in CBU3 actually delivering on this promise.
