Supermarket cashier last week commented on my grocery bagging skills. I told her it was my first job. I was 9. My uncle owned the town market, I'd bag & carry for tips.
Properly utilized, every experience is an education - and an asset. Some leverage them better than others.
Guess I'm an elitist.

There are many types of people I find distasteful.
Right near the top are those who have an inflated sense of how much we care about what they have to say.

It occurs to me, not for the first time, that we could get rid of Trump the same way Christina Applegate's character got rid of Ron Burgundy.

They were less, although I think "considerably" is a matter of semantics.
In 1989 the median home price was 4.15x the median income. In 2025 the median home price is 4.9x the median income. In 36 years median income has increased 290%, median home prices 340%.
Geography matters, of course.

I sometimes think about how we lived with cars that, for reasons that surpassed understanding, often simply refused to start. I mean, it was a fact of life and it wasn't just old cars.

My first mortgage was in '89 and it was 10% - and that was a VA mortgage that was 1 point below prime. Commercial mortgages were high 12s, low 13s.

No. I have never named cars, although I find no fault with people who do. For me... well, my wife would say that I have commitment issues when it comes to cars. I don't entirely agree - I like cars. They keep making them better. I like better.

The Google machine tells me it was initially released as the B-side of "Oh Boy", which is a great song (and was a pretty big hit).

Which doesn't even touch upon the fact that many of those airports have successfully lured commercial operations where none previously existed and a lot of regional facilities aren't purely GA any longer.

Interesting that among the targets along the NextGen timeline (I refuse to call it by that other name) is an initiative for operations at closely aligned parallel runways.
The problem that doesn't solve is this one - where the hurdle is entry into the airspace rather than the ability to depart EWR.

The database includes all accidents and incidents for which a report exists or from which one will result. It is accurate to the day.
Find it yourself, I'm done playing games with you. I have no time for people who don't care about facts but desperately rely in their feels to form opinions.

Not one single accident has been the result of overworked controllers.
ATC has always been overworked, going back to Reagan. Staffing levels never recovered from the PATCO strike.
There are people who know more about this stuff than me (@chasingray.bsky.social), but I'm pretty good at it.

There's a searchable FAA database. I highly recommend it.
The number of aviation accidents over time is a pretty smooth line, regardless of which comparative intervals you select. Overwhelmingly most of them are GA, the majority of those are pilot error and such things don't really change.

And 1051 during the same period in 2024.
The ATC shortage is very much responsible for delays and cancellations. There have been no accidents attributable to a lack of controllers. The DCA midair was caused by stupid policy foisted on the FAA by Congress.

Just this morning I scolded someone for posting the fake Duffy quote about air traffic controllers and then telling me "well, it sounds like something he could have said so it doesn't matter if it's made up".
There's far too much of that.

And how many "crashes & near misses before the lock down" were there?
