The way to return to normal, to encourage moderation, and to ensure bipartisanship is to ruthlessly destroy those that threaten moderation and bipartisanship (Republicans) by any means available, no matter how extreme. It's the paradox of tolerance, basically.

Basically this meme. As for why "hates leftists" is the unifying position, my hunch is everyone thinks the further right you go, the less agency you have, and therefore there's no point in opposing/fighting/protesting the right. Which is of course completely wrong.
