Happy National Cat Day to all who celebrate from (clockwise from top left) Arya, Buzz, Tigger, Zorro, Boris, and Sasha! (Arya is perched on my back while Sasha is lounging in my lap in this collage, in case you were wondering.) #NationalCatDay #CatsOfBluesky

Boris is keeping an eye out for anything that might be happening today on #NationalBlackCatDay ... but so far, nothing much going on. Oh, well, Halloween is in the offing ... #CatsOfBluesky

Last minute #FossilFriday entry: a fossil onyx slippersnail, Crepidula onyx, from Pliocene deposits in Ventura Co. CA, found on a construction site by my paleontologist wife Kim & currently on display @ the Western Science Center in Hemet, CA as part of their new "Life in the Slow Lane" exhibit! 🧪🐌

Happy #InternationalSlothDay! To celebrate w/ a paleontology twist, here's a fossilized skull and lower jaw of the extinct Pleistocene (Ice Age) ground sloth Paramylodon harlani, discovered in 2018 during excavation for the LA subway's La Cienega Station. 🧪🦥 #WorldSlothDay #MylodontMonday

It may be #NoKings day today, but Tigger thinks maybe he should be accorded *some* respect, at least, if not be treated like a king himself - which means no photos while he's busy grooming. (That's my side of the bed that he's claimed, BTW.) 🐈 #Caturday #CatsOfBluesky

Missing for a *month*?! Oh my gosh, I'd have been out of my mind with worry. I'm so glad he's home - for you and him both!

Oh, and Boris thinks I don't need my laptop, either. 🙄

Happy 120 years of Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus sarcophagus! Both of these iconic dinosaur species were named by paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn on this day back in 1905. (Yes, this would have been a good #FossilFriday post, but it's Saturday and I'm terribly literal.) 🦖🧪

Here in California, in a desert town named Baker (population 482 as of 2023), one can find the world's largest thermometer.

For #FossilFriday and #SeaOtterAwarenessWeek: a fossilized right humerus (arm bone) from the sea otter Enhydra lutris, discovered during construction in Los Angeles in 2018. The fossil derives from the middle Pleistocene marine San Pedro Formation, which has been dated from 900 ka to 270 ka. 🧪🦦

The author list is something to behold - it looks like almost every paleontologist on the planet was involved! Wonderful to see this level of collaboration.

Hah. Found the troll. When I see few followers & few being followed, but multiple thousands of posts, methinks you're a bot or a rage farmer. Either way, fuck off.
