We are 2 for 2 with positive trials so far. LIBERATE-D shows benefit with a conservative vs conventional dialysis strategy in AKI-D. The difference in mortality is concerning though? Simultaneous pub 👇🏾 #kidneywk

Shocking first high impact trial of the day. Fish oil reduces CV events in dialysis patients! #Pisces #kidneywk

Small trial of lysine chloride in euvolemic patients with heart failure. Median furosemide dose was 80mg. Chloride supplementation reduced plasma volume and improved diuretic response. Interesting but maybe not the population I would use it in? #kidneywk

We have a new therapy for type 1 diabetes! FINE-ONE with significant proteinuria reduction compared to placebo on a background of RASi with an acceptable safety profile. Where’s the simultaneous pub?? Sglt2 inhibitors are next…#kidneywk

Interim analysis of atacicept (dual BAFF/APRIL inhibitor) shows successful proteinuria reduction vs placebo. Also reduced Gd-IgA1 levels. Adding to the IgA armamentarium. Simultaneous pub 👇🏾 #kidneywk

Interesting study in pts w/T1D w/ or w/out flozins and comp. With healthy controls. Less glomerulomegaly on routine biopsies. Flozins impacted metabolic transcripts throughout the nephron - ie the effect wasn’t isolated to the proximal tubule. Showing they are powerful metabolic drugs. #nephsky

If you're applying to a Nephrology fellowship, let @glaucomflecken.bsky.social tell you why you need to come to @pdxkidney.bsky.social. Then let us tell you what makes it such a great and unique training program! #nephsky

Often consulted after initial correction attempts in hyponatremia.👇called after a 12 mmol/L correction over 8 hrs (primary polydipsia). Previously I would've relowered the Na but with the new data (whether you agree or not) we decided to keep things stable until 24h mark. What would you do? #nephsky

That’s the difference between Michigan and Portland. A snowy day here means you don’t go to the hospital.

Co-management is so important. When you leave it all up to Cardiologists, patients with an elevated creatinine get undertreated and probably vice-versa 👇

"Retro" is usually reserved for fashion and music. Typically not something you see in medicine - unless it's acetazolamide I guess.

Given our concern for obstruction we called IR for percutaneous nephrostomy tubes, which they felt were not indicated on the basis of only mild radiographic changes and requested a CT urogram, which showed an atrophic L kidney and 3 stones in the distal R ureter with "trace hydrouteronephrosis"

The complete anuria was odd to us as typically patients with acute tubular injury are oliguric rather than anuric (except for severe cases). We had a high suspicion for obstruction so requested an US. R kidney shown here (the L kidney was difficult to visualize). Read was that of "mild hydro"
