Stubborn, older middle-aged grump who ironically relishes a good laugh from sharp wit. Enjoys history, podcasts, Britcoms, UK canals, Sci-Fi, tech, and a good meal.
Years ago, neighbors with snowblowers watched me struggle through plow-packed snow by hand. Today, I own one—and when I saw someone struggling, I cleared it in 5 minutes. Not my neighbor, don’t know him or his politics—I just wanted to give the help I wished I’d had. He was incredibly grateful.

Wishing all my friends in the UK and Canada a very Happy Boxing Day!

Over Christmas, I’ll watch my favorite specials. Just realized my top 3—Scrooge (Alistair Sim), Blackadder’s Christmas Carol, and A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong—are all based on the same story. It only took a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Specials to reveal it to me. 👻

There’s nothing quite as serene,
As winter’s own first snow scene.
Covering all things in virgin white,
You came while I slept last night.
With your innocence, the memories fly,
Each a snowflake fallen from the sky.
But nostalgia was soon replaced with dread;
As I bundled up to shovel snow instead.

There’s nothing like wriggling on your back under a pre-lit Christmas tree with a voltage tester, hunting for that one bulb nestled deep within the branches that the cat managed to loosen.

I can’t wait until these incessant political ads stop invading everything.

Sorry Microsoft, but I’m not making the leap from Windows 10 to Windows 11 today. I made the jump to Linux ages ago.

This is the closest I’ve ever gotten to this stage - complete with complimentary tinnitus. 🫨🎶

I’m highly insulted. I just got mail from the Division of Aging Services! 😡

I remember.
A co-worker and I had traveled to lower Manhattan for training that morning, only to witness this tragedy. Every moment is etched in my memory, and had I made just one choice differently, I might not be here—a thought I carry in memory of those lost that day and those gone afterwards.

Although the weather was far from perfect, my wife and I spent yesterday in Cape May.
‪And no, @noswpod.bsky.social — we didn’t go to the beach. We went as far “down” the shore as “down the shore” gets. 😉😁

Woo-hoo! Made it to round 2! 🤞
God, I hate job interviews. No matter how much I practice, I always think of stuff I should have said afterwards. 🙁

Goodness, not *another* Amazon Echo notification. Seems as if it has been perpetually lit over the last couple of weeks with either severe thunderstorm, rain, heat, wind or flood warnings.

Can’t catch a break with trees. First, mine were dropping branches in my backyard, now it’s the neighbors. 🙁

Texted from the doorstep rather than knocking or ringing. I didn’t even know they were out there until someone let them in. Digital laziness at its peak. 😔

Totally lucked out taking this picture of the Thunderbirds today. All the other attempts are just clouds. 🤣

I wish I had a better phone camera—and my old majestic sycamore back. I’ve lived here across the decades, but never saw this: while mowing the other day, a Bald Eagle perched nearby. If my tall tree were still here, it might’ve chosen that instead.

Planned to resign this year, but my employer shut down first—just before Christmas—keeping me on the "wind-down" crew while making everyone else redundant with no severance.

Yesterday was my last day. After 15 years of being tech-tethered, even on holiday, last night’s unencumbered sleep was bliss.
