On every night of my adult life including Saturdays I like to be in bed by a reasonable hour EXCEPT when I see my community development friends at a housing conference and all the sudden I’m trying to direct everyone to the tiki bar for an after-after-party and staying up all night.

Stopped for gas in El Cerrito, a middle-aged woman pulled into the pump next to me and (1) asked if she has to put her card in first and (2) observed that this 4-station 8-pump gas station is “the largest she’s ever seen.” I’m endeared.

Trying to make lemonade out of lemons: a vole ate through almost our entire front garden bed last summer, so now replanting with all the stinky beauties: bee balm, lavender, many sages, oregano, mints, rosemary, catmint, borage, thyme, and some sorrel. Leaving room for future alliums. 🤞

Flying home from a trip to Pennsylvania and have a suitcase full of pretzels and kiffles. I’m not exaggerating, that is all that is in my roller bag - I stuffed all my clothes in a duffel. My bag got flagged at TSA for further inspection. I have never seen an agent laugh so hard when she opened it.

I’m snowed into my hotel for the night and also can’t be bothered to charge my laptop so I’m stuck watching live cable tv with commercials I can’t believe people still live this way.

Doctor told me to start taking an arthritis pain gel for my frozen shoulder and I just applied my first dose. As I was applying it I happened to notice this on the package 🤔.

Watching the Sopranos and in this scene Bobby’s kids are watching Beethoven (the movie) on TV and Kingston just went NUTS. At the dog on the TV… on the TV!

Hot take: my commitment to vegan queso is such that I’m taking it to a party today where not a single person, myself included, is vegan. The rare platonic opposite of “food that vegans eat” (no hate this is one of my favorite genres of food), where the vegan adaptation is better than the original.

When people get my contact info in their phone it shows as Capri 🏖️ (ask me for your emoji if we text & you wanna know 😇). Feels slightly amusing for texting. One of my coworkers dictates through Siri & bc her phone knows me as Capri 🏖️, that’s how my name appears in teams & emails too.

Two things that have occurred to me today:
(1) Is it possible that my recent but seemingly prolonged runny nose is actually seasonal pollen allergies …. In January?
(2) why are Trader Joe’s tissues useless? If I wanted to just blow my nose into my hand I could do it without having to buy anything!

Update! My brothers in law have colds so we get to skip Christmas! Prob gonna get some halal Turkish takeout, but it really feels like the world (of Allentown) is suddenly my Christmas oyster.

How rude would it be to go to my dad’s house on Xmas day just to cook food to bring with me to my MIL’s? I think it would be double rude (to my dad to show up, cook food, then leave and take it with me) and to my MIL (bringing my own food bc… well I don’t need to say it), but is that TOO rude?

The most fundamental incompatibility between Brian and myself is how much I want to live in a city and how much he does not. Every time we travel somewhere great I ask if he’s changed his mind but it hasn’t happened yet.
