If you need it, Dick Clifford’s line was “In my experience, the most boring parts of the Bible are often the most important.”

I would spin things forward. There’s also no theological cost to Mary and Joseph having a sexual relationship / bearing children AFTER Jesus’ birth.

And that would make for a much more straightforward read of Mark 6:3-4 and other gospel passages about Jesus’ family.

In a past life, yes. Paladin might be more befitting Judith, but an ass-kicking pastoral associate from Fishtown would probably be happier without all the glittering weapons and armor, right?

Balance it out with a Monk. Devotional prayer and punching bad guys in the face. It’s the DnD embodiment of your new tattoo.

Isn’t Rubio more like a Lizalfos, in so far as sometimes he really just wants to blend in with the scene and pretend he’s not there…but we can all still totally see him.

Just a little too “on the nose” for my comfort.

Big fan of your work. Going forward, could you avoid using “Democrat” as the adjective? It’s a term created (and then belabored) by Republicans as a sign of disrespect.

Unless, are you trying to signal disrespect for the Democratic Party?

The strangest insult in US politics: why do Republicans call it ‘the Democrat party’?
For almost a century, opponents have removed the ‘ic’ from ‘Democratic’. Is it doing them any good?

Speaking as the guy who was sitting directly behind the “Guy Who Arrived Late to the Live Show, Sat in the Front Row, Pulled Out His Phone, Asked Repeated Questions About Whether We Subscribe to Identity Politics, Then Stormed Out,” let me just say that guy was the worst and Jay was right!

Glad I brought my glasses to this ostensibly audio medium!

But GOOD news, right? I’ve had enough of the other kind of late.

Cyclops, but be careful how you answer.

Not sure whether to credit him or Scorsese, but they were able to see through the Evangelist’s propaganda to get to the heart of the character: a guy who would rather be doing anything else besides talking to his Jewish subjects.

And the corollary: too many people want something bad to happen to someone else.

I feel like the Sunday talk show hosts should ask all Republican guests who claim Musk’s salute was harmless to perform the same gesture live on air. That’d be a great “made for TV” hack test.

I’m not even sure how to describe this collection of pictures and tributes from two former students: Stephanie Moncada and Franny Robledo.

Set aside the images they chose or the messages the wrote. The love they had for me shines through in the effort it took to create this artifact.

Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree.”

Two friends in college gifted me this book, as it reminded them of me. Including Angela, the first girl I ever loved. Also here the receipt from the dinner I told her how I felt and she told me she loved someone else. A lot of pain in that story.

Aquacadet Fundraiser by Jeff Ra, c. 2000.

My college roommate introduced us to the musical group The Aquabats, and then proceeded to start a fundraiser to sponsor my joining the fanclub - including his original artwork. God love him.

International Poet of Merit Awards.

That time I won an online poetry competition and got published in a book of poetry / fell for a clever marketing scheme where they marked up the price on the books and awards they sent me. Ah, to be young and stupid.

Donna Johnson’s Ethics Exam essay, c. 2004.

In which the writer accuses Dr. King of attempting to sound “pseudo-intelligent.” A classic of the student essay genre!
