Cantina Sounds: Star Wars source music
@cantinasounds.bsky.social
Exploring diegetic music — music the characters hear and make — from a galaxy far far away, in movies, TV shows, video games, and theme parks. I'm @jere7my.bsky.social. Spreadsheet of 500+ Star Wars diegetic tracks: bit.ly/cantinasounds
Oh mighty Jabba, let us celebrate your glorious birthday on day 202 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with some galactic funk from Roberto Prado! Max Rebo, Sy Snootles, and Droopy McCool played "Jabba's Birthday Party" in LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation.

We visit a Tatooine mod parlour on day 201 of #TheDiegeticShuffle for a few different flavors of techno. "The Mod Parlour" was written by Joseph Shirley and Ludwig Göransson, and features Thundercat (aka Stephen Bruner, theamazingthundercat.com, who plays the Modifier) on bass.

We mark day 200 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with a subtle reggae beat in Aunt Z's from season 2 of Resistance. This is another Michael Tavera cue.

Unfortunately the only Resistance source cue listed on GEMA is called (drum roll) "Source", so there's not much more we can say.

I don't know what direction Patrick Gleeson was given for this cue, but I am guessing it was something like "give me a tune that sounds like it's being played badly by baby Ewoks." We're enjoying (?) "Wokling Band" from the Ewoks series finale on day 199 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.

Does anyone know anything about this slow swing number that plays in the Holiday Special while Krelman is flirting with Ackmena? It's presumably by Ian Fraser, but I never noticed it before or heard anything about it. Does it have a name?

A soft bossa nova plays in the Aces' Lounge on the Colossus, letting the audience know it's a more upscale joint than Aunt Z's. "Lounge Source" is another Michael Tavera cue, and it's what we're chilling to on day 198 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.
November 18, 2025 at 12:32 AM
We have another lost source cue from RotJ for day 197 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, which sounds very much like the lost source cue we heard on day 179, "Galactic Dance Blast", but in a different key with different instrumentation. "Jabba Sail Barge Source" was lost at the same time.

The real-world artist is Reut Yehudai, an Israeli singer-songwriter and producer who decided to become a musician while performing surgery on a shark in veterinary school. She posted a video of "Shakawalla" being played in Oga's on her YouTube channel: youtu.be/lpc0yS3TrHc?...

A week ago, we heard "Hutt Clubbin" by Matthew St. Laurent from season 3 of the Clone Wars; today, for day 195 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, he gives us "In Da Club" from the season 2 finale. Ahsoka and Plo Koon explore the depths of Coruscant and uncover a hot techno mix.

It's a zero-gee dance party on day 194 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, and Michael Tavera once again provides the tunes for Aunt Z's in the season 2 premiere of Resistance. This time it's some background EDM.

A hora (from Greek χορός, "dance") is a circle dance in Balkan and Jewish folk traditions, in which the participants typically take three steps clockwise and one step back. It's easy to imagine the residents of Batuu taking hands in a big circle to dance to this tune.

According to Bellis, the cue was intended for a larger scene with multiple droids doing repairs. Star Tours was his first parks gig as music director, but he went on to compose for the Indy stunt show, Alien Encounter, Tower of Terror, Spaceship Earth, and many other attractions.

It was released on "The Music of Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Epcot Center" and is actually two cues. The first, which echoes the sax in Glenn Frey's "The Heat Is On", is described by G2-9T as "I Want to Weld Your Hand" by Danny and the Droids. The second half is more jizzy.

The Funky Futurists are in fact Simon Oscroft (www.grandtheft.io), a songwriter and producer who was born in South Africa, grew up in New Zealand, and works out of LA. He also wrote the unreleased "Cosmic Cabana" (aka the "Ballad of Jar Jar Binks") for the Starcruiser.
November 11, 2025 at 12:23 AM
"Cassus Yissik" is actually Nick Pingree (solo.to/nickpingree), a Bay Area music producer who produced many of the "Star Wars Lofi" tracks of recent years. He also composed the unreleased "Waffmula", "Chowbaso Felucia", and "Krillex Island" for the Halcyon's Sublight Lounge.
November 10, 2025 at 12:58 AM
"Vespaara Nights" is by @gordyhaab.bsky.social (www.gordyhaab.com), composer for many Star Wars games from Battlefront to SWTOR to the Jedi games, and @finishingmoveinc.bsky.social (www.finishingmoveinc.com). Haab's soundtrack for "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" was just nominated for a Grammy.

Yaron Spiwak, by the way, who has composed dozens of pieces for Disney parks all around the world, plays lounge piano shows in P-town during the summers. Might need to take a ferry trip next year.

BSO Radio has about half a dozen commercial jingles (which I have been dutifully cataloguing), and you can hear two of them quite well in this video from D23 2019: "Sleek and Chic Kashykkk" and "Tugg's Grub" (music by Yaron Spiwak, introduced by John "JK" Kessler & Matt Walker).

Obi-Wan and Quinlan Vos travel to Nal Hutta on day 188 of #TheDiegeticShuffle and encounter one of my favorite cue names: "Hutt Clubbin" by Matthew St. Laurent, an ominous, bass-heavy house mix served up by DJ Rangthang, a four-armed Vonomi DJ. The episode is "Hunt for Ziro".

I think I could spend the rest of my life cataloguing the diegetic music of Galaxy's Edge and the Starcruiser, because I keep discovering new things I didn't know about. Here's a brief band rehearsal from a teenage Wookiee and Sandperson, heard from the bazaar apartments.
November 7, 2025 at 1:52 AM
On day 187 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, "WE BEGIN". Nicholas Britell composed this minimalist percussive piece, with which the Time Grappler signals the start of the working day on Ferrix by striking a beskar bell with hammers.
November 7, 2025 at 1:18 AM
"Nesh Godo" is by Theodore Caye Tittman (www.thecayelife.com), a musician from Boston who releases his solo rap/R&B/EDM music as Caye, and Noémie Legrand from Paris (artists.spotify.com/songwriter/5...), a frequent Disney songwriter and lead singer of the band Noé.

We're stopping off on Numidian Prime for a quick game of sabacc on day 185 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. "Lando's Jungle Room" (aka cue 7M46S, the 46th cue of reel 7) by John Powell is the samba Lando was listening to when Han Solo challenged him for the Millennium Falcon.

I finally started Outlaws, so finally I can take photos of the Galaxy Rejects playing "Inside an Exogorth" on Canto Bight. Love that Treadwell drummer!

The musicians are briefly visible as Finn runs past: three Palandags named Dhuz, Jhat, and Hhex, all playing f'nonc horns. (Not sure where the steel drums are coming from. Maybe the horns have MIDI.)
