Exploring diegetic music — music the characters hear and make — from a galaxy far far away, in movies, TV shows, video games, and theme parks. I'm @jere7my.bsky.social. Spreadsheet of 500+ Star Wars diegetic tracks: bit.ly/cantinasounds

Welcome to the cantina! I've been putting together a continuously evolving spreadsheet of every diegetic music cue and track in Star Wars, from Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes in Chalmun's Cantina to DJ R-3X at Oga's on Batuu — and beyond. Check it out! bit.ly/StarWarsSource
It's a zero-gee dance party on day 194 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, and Michael Tavera once again provides the tunes for Aunt Z's in the season 2 premiere of Resistance. This time it's some background EDM.

We're still in the Disney parks but many years have passed on day 193 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. "Marketplace Hora" by Harlan Hodges and Randy Kerber plays on the patio of Docking Bay 7 in Galaxy's Edge, and was included in the Journey to Batuu Sims expansion. youtu.be/hpKoIth-aYM

32 years before Galaxy's Edge, there was diegetic Star Wars music at Disney Parks. "The Droid Rooms" by Richard Bellis played from a boom box in the original 1997 Star Tours queue. It's our selection for day 192 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. youtu.be/iqPEb7elNNw?...

"Starlight" by the Funky Futurists played in the Sublight Lounge of the Galactic Starcruiser. It's a catchy disco hit with Huttese lyrics, and it got an official release on the Starcruiser soundtrack. We're spinning it for day 191 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. youtu.be/dv7g3xMQoMQ?...

Day 190 of #TheDiegeticShuffle sees us on the shuttle to the Halcyon, where (I am told) "Rah Rah Rah" by Cassus Yissik was played. It's a cheerful pop tune with a vocalist who sounds like a Muppet who wandered in off the street and picked up a microphone. youtu.be/h0LBO84cKNU?...

We're heading to Vespaara on day 189 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, where "Vespaara Nights" played on a radio in two of the "Star Wars: Hunters" arenas. Hunters is no more, but you can still listen to "Vespaara Nights" on your favorite streaming service. youtu.be/crgxFJeDQBM?...

Also at D23 2019, the great Judith Hill performed a live six-minute extended version of Gaya's "Oola Shuka" with one heck of a keyboard break. Video length limits preclude posting it here, but you can see it on YouTube: youtu.be/pWWm8kUK-nc?...

BSO Radio has about half a dozen commercial jingles (which I have been dutifully cataloguing), and you can hear two of them quite well in this video from D23 2019: "Sleek and Chic Kashykkk" and "Tugg's Grub" (music by Yaron Spiwak, introduced by John "JK" Kessler & Matt Walker).

Obi-Wan and Quinlan Vos travel to Nal Hutta on day 188 of #TheDiegeticShuffle and encounter one of my favorite cue names: "Hutt Clubbin" by Matthew St. Laurent, an ominous, bass-heavy house mix served up by DJ Rangthang, a four-armed Vonomi DJ. The episode is "Hunt for Ziro".

I think I could spend the rest of my life cataloguing the diegetic music of Galaxy's Edge and the Starcruiser, because I keep discovering new things I didn't know about. Here's a brief band rehearsal from a teenage Wookiee and Sandperson, heard from the bazaar apartments.

On day 187 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, "WE BEGIN". Nicholas Britell composed this minimalist percussive piece, with which the Time Grappler signals the start of the working day on Ferrix by striking a beskar bell with hammers.

We're sipping a Dagobah Vimlet in the Sublight Lounge of the Halcyon on day 186 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, and "Nesh Godo" by Barūbarū is playing over the speakers. It's a smooth EDM mix with slinky lyrics in an unknown alien language. youtu.be/NiE0lqr9AoA?...

We're stopping off on Numidian Prime for a quick game of sabacc on day 185 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. "Lando's Jungle Room" (aka cue 7M46S, the 46th cue of reel 7) by John Powell is the samba Lando was listening to when Han Solo challenged him for the Millennium Falcon.

I finally started Outlaws, so finally I can take photos of the Galaxy Rejects playing "Inside an Exogorth" on Canto Bight. Love that Treadwell drummer!

(Oops—“Aquarela do Brasil”, not Brazil.)
We're sipping cocktails in the casino on day 184 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with John Williams' "Canto Bight" samba from The Last Jedi. It features steel drums, in a nod to the original cantina, and quotes from "Aquarela do Brazil" by Ary Barroso (as heard in Gilliam's "Brazil").

Presenting the same data in a pie chart, which makes it clear that over half of all diegetic cues in Star Wars (that I know of) come from just six sources.

The halfway point of the Diegetic Shuffle isn't the only milestone we hit this weekend—with Visions Vol. 3 I added the 500th (and 501st) cue to the spreadsheet of diegetic Star Wars music! I thought I'd mark it with another look by the numbers. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

We are halfway through this year of #TheDiegeticShuffle, which began on May the 4th! Day 183 brings another cue from Visions, as Aau communicates with damaged kyber crystals through song in "Cave to Outside" from "Aau's Song", made by South Africa's Triggerfish Animation Studios.

We're kicking up our heels in the Old Republic on day 182 of ##TheDiegeticShuffle with an upbeat jizz tune from @petermcconnell.bsky.social, "Under the Double Sun". Swing that kloo horn, boys! youtu.be/aspfDIa05gY?...

The Visions Vol. 3 soundtrack is out, and it includes (at least) three diegetic tracks: "Music Player" by Towa Tei & Shiro SAGISU from "The Song of Four Wings", "Beyond Countless Worlds of Truth" by Taisei Iwasaki feat. Sheena Ringo from "The Bounty Hunters"…

We're back in Jabba's Palace on day 181 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, listening to "Jabba's Baroque Recital" by John Williams (and presumptively played by Max Rebo). It's in waltz time, played on flute and harpsichord with alberti bass on the left hand, plus (synth) harp and chamber organ.

The Freemakers visit Maz's castle on day 180 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, and Maz being Maz she's got music playing, in the same reggae groove Shag Kava occupied. This unnamed cue is by Jesi Oklee Nelson.

We have a truly lost John Williams cue from "Return of the Jedi" on day 179 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. The master tape of "Max Rebo Source (Palace Source)", aka "Galactic Dance Blast", was lost when it was sent out to be used in "From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga."
