The complete text of "In Flanders Fields"; every schoolchild in Canada knows this poem. It was published in 1917, sadly John McCrae did not survive to the end of the war. #Cdnhistory #Canada

when they carried a memorial cloth over 50 metres long with the names of some of the children who didn't come home on it while a young Mi'kmaq singer/songwriter named DeeDee Austin sang "Buried Truth". It brought many in the audience to tears (and some of watching at home).

The ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for #TruthandReconcilation and #OrangeShirtDay was very moving & profound. They walked the over 60 metre memorial cloth for all the children who didn't home home (over 4,000 names so far) through the crowd while Deedee Austin performed "Buried Truth".

We were there. Some of the many signs that were carried by the counter protestors (the ones on the left side middle row were ours, taken after we left).

I saw very few of them today but far more with great signs. Here's a sample (including the ones we carried on the left in the centre).

Collage of protest signs at the Christie Pitts counter rally in Toronto Canada today (to counter a white supremacist anti immigrant rally). #Canadians are proud of our #diversity. Hundreds of people came out to say that hate has no place in #Canada. #nohate

I miss Jack. It's hard to believe that he's been gone for 14 long years. I've never forgotten his final words to Canadians in his last letter to Canadians.

Yes, we had acoustic coupler modems we could borrow from the grad school along with a portable TTY to dial into the mainframe. You stuck the phone headset on it. In library school, they had accounts so we could to call up internationally & search the databases like DIALOG. (Before the Internet.)

1/2 I'm so grateful to be #Canadian as my parents chose #Canada. My parents met in 51 in Detroit with my dad (Cdn) in university & my mom (US) working. They married in '53 & moved to Canada. Why? McCarthyism & the Korean War. My Usian mom said she did not want to raise children in "THAT atmosphere".

For Americans - the Shawinigan Handshake was the chokehold our former PM Jean Chretien gave to a protestor who wouldn't get out of his way in 1996.

They're not ducks, Canada geese, also called "cobra chickens" in Canada. They can be quite aggressive protecting their nests (like us Canadians).

Low: Platinum Preppy, buy an ink syringe to refill the cartridges (as the ink convertor costs more than the pen)

A Bit More: Asvine P20 (piston filler) or Lamy Safari (buy Lamy convertor)

Must have accessory: Ink Miser, buy the freestanding one for filling from sample bottles or 1/2 empty bottles
