It might be chilly & damp outside, but her nest of socks & sweats still warm from the clothes dryer makes The Maggie happy on this #caturday.

Snoozing while her staff writes about mayhem & murder.

I found the red leaves in my own garden and hurried to snap this photo before my spouse raked up the jewel-colored leaves.

Is there anything more uplifting than autumn colors in sunlight?! This morning's walk found most of the red leaves fallen in the storms, but the golds are gloriously hanging on.

The Maggie asks, Have you voted? If not, get going!
(For people in the US, of course. She says good morning to the rest of the world, and could someone please turn off the fog?) #electionday #cats

The Maggie sez turning back the clocks is a pitiful excuse for sleeping in & she will not tolerate it.

It will get better?

I believe my Arthur Menzies Oregon grape (Mahonia) is going to bloom this winter! #naturewriting #garden

Gonna be great!" (West Side Story)

Dawn. As I stood on the deck taking this photo my neighbors came out with their grandkids to wave at the dawn, & at me. A beautiful start to the day. Softened my heart & made me smile.
May you notice the beauty in your day!

I am rereading my own book A Spy for the Redeemer because I needed some info for the current wip & why not enjoy the whole book?! And I am enjoying it so much! I'm charmed by the romance of Daimon and Tildy (whom he insists on calling Matilda, which is so sweet). I'd forgotten that little detail. 😉

A little beauty for your Monday timeline. After the windstorm--gorgeous autumn colors. Share yours! #autumn

The Maggie consults the oracle, Ragnar Shaggy Britches, about what mischief is afoot on a rainy #caturday.

"In life, speakers answer each other's questions....Dialogue, to the contrary, is indirect. The ... best dialogue is oblique.
She: How are you? I said how are you?
He: I heard you the first time.
She: I only wanted to know how you were.
He: How the hell do you think I am?"

The Maggie gave up on the rainy morning & settled for a nap in my office. Will she wake to a sunny afternoon? #cats

I'm listening to the audiobook of Blackheart Man by @nalohop.bsky.social, narrated by @ronniebutlerjr.bsky.social. So delightful! Highly recommend. We all need cheering up & this combo does the trick. The language trips from the tongue like poetry with laughter bubbling behind, making it sing.

I didn't know this. Feeling more love for my mossy garden.

The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden is brilliant. A slow build, but be patient, it's worth it, and then everything makes sense. Winner of the Women's Prize for Fiction (well deserved!).
I also love the US cover, the scene it represents:

Not only evening primrose, but the hydrangea beside them is enjoying a second bloom with deep blue blossoms. Far deeper blue than earlier in summer. The old blooms have already faded through mauve to a pinkish ivory. #nature #garden #hydrangea

Exciting developments in my late summer garden--second blooms! #nature #garden #eveningprimrose

Morning walk, & then a visitor in the garden, checking out the late blooming evening primrose. We had quite the discussion of this surprise resurgence of blossoms. She's delighted & wants to know whether there will be more. I humbly admit I don't know. #nature #walking

Name a non-LotR character who is a cool and good person but would nevertheless set land speed records for getting fucked up by the One Ring.

Written on the Dark by @guygavrielkay.bsky.social is a beautiful, elegiac novel, involving subtly disguised historic figures King Charles VI, Henry V, Joan of Arc, François Villon, & Christine de Pizan who follow different arcs in Kay's universe. Gorgeous writing, rich characters. #bookreview 💙📚
