Yes, I know NYT played the story prominently on its homepage for a while yesterday. But its print play is a more deliberate sign of what it thinks is important. This is a 5-alarm fire, with a racist criminal running the country. Responsible news orgs need to act like that's a huge problem. 2/🧵

There are always arguments to be made. The Trump people have even made arguments supporting the second strike. We can't let them try to move the line. Even the lowest rank knows all of these are murder. Can't let them move the line even a little bit.

With Iraq if you believed the "evidence" Colin Powell presented to the UN, then perhaps the threat was real. But I was pretty sure that was BS. But it was enough for someone in the chain of command to get a pass on murder. But anyone who knew otherwise doesn't get a pass.

The thing that makes the first strike murder is the same reason that the second strike is murder. The occupants are not posing an imminent threat to the United States or its agents. The imminent threat from the shipwrecked individuals and the occupants of the boats is exactly the same, zero.

If these boats were riding the surf into Imperial Beach and we blew them up, it would be murder. As I understand their argument illicit drugs lead to many deaths in the United States so whatever is done to reduce the amount of drugs coming into the United States is legal. It's not.

The first strike was also murder. If an individual in another boat launches a missile to kill people in another boat, that is murder. If the Mafia did it we would call it a Mafia hit. This is no different.

Small quibble-this is murder not a war crime. So is the first strike. The United States is killing people who haven't been convicted of a capital crime. It's murder.
