I'm not surprised in the least. We saw this in MI with Tudor Dixon in 2022 ranting about trans people. She looked unhinged to everyone but conservatives, and helped hand the Democrats a solid win. Here's hoping we see the same thing again (and that other Democrats pay attention).

I imagine a lot of it comes down to an illusion of control. A parasite is an external thing with a clear fix (kill/remove it). Finding out your own cells are betraying you (autoimmune disorders, cancers, etc) can be far scarier for some people because there's nothing outside them to easily blame.
