A reminder of our asks ahead of the Timms Review. Sir Stephen Timms is committed to concluding his review into PIP by Autumn 2026. 🧵

The Disability Poverty Campaign Group (DPCG) are collecting evidence about people’s experiences of Access to Work. We are hearing that awards are being cut or refused with no explanation.

Any supporting evidence will help to compel the DWP to address these issues:

The gov says it wants more Disabled people in work. Then why is it cutting the scheme that helps them stay there?

Many people are reporting 60-80% cuts or even total withdrawal of their support, with no explanation.

Reform without support is cost-cutting in disguise & it will fail Disabled people every time.

📢 We are signing the open letter calling for urgent reform of Access to Work. Reform can only begin by listening to those it’s meant to serve: buff.ly/Fn1698V

📢 We've had a formal response from Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms to our open letter opposing #DisabilityBenefits cuts. We can’t say we’re thrilled with it.

The UK Government from time to time finds itself in trouble with the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The present Government, in keeping with tradition, has just been written to by the UN, expressing concern at the cuts to #DisabilityBenefits.

We welcome that the Government has recognised the damaging effect of the proposed #PIP cuts. But serious cuts to #UC for #Disabled people are still there. Ministers should drop them too.

The Government now has an opportunity to fully re-think its approach and work with Disabled people.

Our staff delivered an open letter signed by supporters, major charities & orgs to 10 Downing Street today, opposing proposed cuts.

Despite the last-minute "concessions," our work isn't done.

Our Green Paper response is clear. This isn't reform. It's cuts disguised as change.

The proposals would:
Push more Disabled people into poverty 📉
Link support to a failing PIP system 🚫
Undermine safety, autonomy & rights ⚠️

Our response to the Pathways to Work Green Paper calls for:

Fair benefits based on real living costs ✔️
Opt-in support, not sanctions ✔️
No benefit changes without co-production with Disabled people ✔️
An end to policy-making that risks lives ✔️

Offering to involve Disabled people in shaping these cuts will do nothing to change their unacceptability. 🚫

For this reason, our opposition to the bill remains, and we will be delivering our letter to Downing Street on Monday.

From the start, Disabled voices and DPOs were left out of reforms that affect our lives, safety, and future. Now the Government announces last-minute concessions to fix proposals that should never have been written in the first place. #TakingThePIP

It is vital that opposition to the UC and PIP cuts Bill continues. The concessions proposed do nothing to protect those who will acquire conditions in years to come, and create an irrational two-tier system that cannot be justified by the evidence. #TakingThePIP

A growing number of MPs have signed the reasoned amendment.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has urged the Government to "urgently rethink" the cuts.

Every moment counts leading up to the vote next week. We'll be in Westminster delivering our open letter.

It is immensely encouraging to see that 100+ Labour MPs have tabled a considered amendment to upcoming cuts to #DisabilityBenefits.

If the Speaker selects it to be voted on, and it passes, the bill would fall entirely.

A significant moment for holding the Government to account.
