It's an electronic travel authorization, not a traditional visa. However, individuals who need visas must still apply and undergo a more rigorous vetting process. The UK says it's for security, but my expat husband and I suspect it's more about collecting fees.
Is there a simple reason why we need visas to go to the UK now? I’ve been going there pretty regularly on and off for more than 20 years, and I’ve never needed one before.

Ban all social media platforms that use algorithms to control feed content, like X and Meta. Otherwise, the uproar over TikTok seems hypocritical.
There is a reason TikTok is so good at figuring out what you want to see, and why it’s better than everything else: it’s a weapon, and the best weapon is one you don’t know exists, or worse, one you think you can’t live without
