I binge-watched all of Sanford and Son this month. The show's impact can't be overstated. Much edgier than other 70s sitcoms like Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart. The latter hardly mentioned Watergate (Mary produced a news show ffs!), but Redd Foxx cracked Haldeman/Ehrlichman jokes. So funny.

I listened to the SOTU on AM radio last night while commuting home. Had to hop around to a few stations and sometimes the pitch of Biden's voice would go hilariously high or low. It felt very 1930s.

As I expected, the answer is 1973-75. Nixon-Agnew-Albert then Nixon-Ford-Albert followed by Ford-Rockefeller-Albert.
I'm lecturing about POTUS this week, and this thought just popped up: w/ Johnson as speaker, tonight's dais will be different from 2023 (w/ McCarthy) which was different from 2022 (w/ Pelosi). When was the last time there were three different SOTU daises in three years?

I'm irrationally happy that Yes Minister is available for streaming on Tubi. That show has been on my watchlist for over a decade.

Has anyone else noticed the high number of political science books on Audible, especially the "free" titles included with membership? I just listened to White Identity Politics and the narrator was great! What led publishers to start recording academic books?

Watched the original version of The Omen for the first time this past weekend. The most unbelievable part of the whole film is that Gregory Peck is the US ambassador to the UK and he doesn't a) have any security to keep an eye on the mysterious nanny, or b) have enough money to just hire a new one.

Big fan of the new snipping function of the PrtScr button in Windows 11. Will save me a bit of time when I'm making slides about current events/news articles.

Are there any political scientists working on the topic of Native American mascots in schools? I've seen research in psychology, sociology, and public health, but not polisci. Any tips?

It's wild that Jim Jordan represents Oberlin College.
Jim Jordan just assuming he’s popular when his district is shaped like a stork made of Legos

Apparently Boehner didn't like Jordan when they served together. Interesting how similar (at least parts of) their constituencies were. I grew up in northern part of Boehner's district, <30 minutes from Jordan's hometown. Rural Miami and Champaign Cos are indistinguishable. Deep red, very pro-life.

Fresno City is asking the AG to prevent a March vote to amend the charter. County supervisors don't want sheriff/DA elections in higher turnout presidential years, which was the stated goal of AB759 supporters. We'll see how AG responds, but it's probably headed to court.
Last year, legislators passed AB759 to shift sheriff/DA elections from midterm to presidential cycle. Charter counties can keep elections in midterm years IF charter stipulated as much. Fresno Co's charter didn't specify at the time. Now co. gov wants voters to amend charter & shift elections back.
Happy to be here! How about a little self-promotion for my 1st post? Yesterday, I spoke with ABC30 here in the Central Valley about a brewing controversy over the timing of sheriff/DA elections in Fresno County. abc30.com/election-cyc...
