That's far too elongate for Phycitodes. It's definitely a Homoeosoma species, probably nebulella but wouldn't rule out nimbella as you aren't far from the coast. I get nebulella regularly in my garden.

Yours is a Eucosma hohenwartiana not conterminana. Here is a conterminana. They have a broken dorsal blotch.

Yes to the first. Second isn't conterminana though. It's hohenwartiana. Pictured is a conterminana from my garden last week.

This will help you in future. The back edge of that central diagonal band in cnicana is straight. As yours has undulations in it, that makes it rubigana.

Maybe it got it right for once 🤣 here's one of mine from the garden.

And this is how healthy discussions should be. I think as well that Shaded flies later, but then these flight times are extremely subjective these days! Grey can cause massive headaches. Here's a quick example. First 2 images of Grey Pug on Flickr are incorrect (Plain & Mottled).

This Alder Kitten last night was without a doubt, the star of the catch last night, which featured 69 species. Not only is it new for the garden, but it's one I've never seen before. Fordham, East Cambs

Nice. Yes there aren't any with those markings, even more so this time of year. I took one last year. The clue is in the Latin albi (white) Costa (along the bottom).

Not one I've ever seen. In fact I only saw my first Yellow Belle the other day whilst out.

Nice. I disturbed one under Oaks last week in Suffolk. Told it still needs dissecting.

Moth trapping is dismal here in the East. Cool breezy nights are killing it. Thankfully a few bonus Caloptilia to the net at dusk on the patio. Caloptilia rufipennella & almost certainly Caloptilia falconipennella both new for the year and brings me upto 36sp for 2025. #mothsmatter #teammoth

Nice. They vary quite a bit. Females look like a different species!

Great! I was extremely lucky to get both over 2 afternoons at Bramfield woods. Far end was the hot spot (highlighted) also very good for Speckled Yellow in the sunshine (which I guess are at Balls wood too) good luck.

A cracking catch last night in my garden here in East Cambs. 63 Moths of 19 species with 7 new faces. Best of the catch were Herald, both Chestnuts, Acleris kochiella and Mompha epilobiella. Garden species at 32 for the year. #teammoth #mothsmatter

Spot on for Povolyna. They seem to be going through a boom period these last few years. Previously in the home Counties, they were exceedingly rare. They vary a lot in ground colour..

Moths are back here in my garden. 6 new species these past few warm nights gets me upto 14sp for 2025 now. Fordham, East Cambs.

A few bonus Acleris species from Wednesday. A ferrugana/notana from the garden trap and a cristana disturbed at work whilst hedge cutting. 6 species for 2025 now. Fordham, East Cambs #teammoth #mothsmatter

Cheetah eye quick draw from this morning, whilst my son drew his usual mario bits and pieces. He's only 6!

Great. They are super variable!

2nd window of opportunity for the garden moth trap. 2 moths on Tuesday night & 1 last night. Super slim pickings sadly. But 2/3rds of the catch were newbies, as is expected in January! 5 species for 2025 now. Fordham, East Cambs #teammoth #mothsmatter

And so it begins. The 2025 list starts with a single Winter Moth attracted to my actinic light. Mild at 12c but quite breezy sadly. Fordham, East Cambs. #teammoth #Moths

A new Oemospila species from Malaysia recently described by French Coleopterist Philippe Jacquot. The paratype of which resides in my collection, and only known from a couple of specimens.

Moth traps on location this year. Stiffkey Marsh and Cranwich Camp (both in Norfolk) were new sites for me this year. The third photo is from a wet woodland site I regularly trap at in the far east of Cambridgeshire.

It's been a while but here are my best Moths of 2024, both in the garden, locally and from further afield. 70 new species made it on the garden list, as it pushes towards 900sp.
