Coming from biking around in Ottawa, I was surprised how much safer biking most streets in Toronto felt to me. The suburban stroads around Ottawa have much faster traffic and feel very hostile

Oh, that's worse than I even expected! So for ~$450m CAD, they're building about 23 km and 49 stops. Compare that to the 28 km Crosstown for at least 12 times that and the 18 km Hurontario for at least 10 times that. Of course it's not apples to apples, but...
