Cyclist, centrist, City of London and Cambridge, German learner, Zwifter. Keen on education. Often confused. If it isn't on Strava, it didn't happen. eX-Schoolduggery.
The #Zwift - #Brompton collab could not be more on brand for me 😂. Racing a virtual Brompton in virtual London wearing virtual tweed while I'm still too injured to do it in real life.

The Lady Mayor's Show today was the usual mix of marching bands, gorgeous horses and grown adults in fancy dress. And then there were the wtf moments 😂

I walked the same distance round Hyde Park today. Doesn't really compare, sadly, but the trees were pretty

When the potential grandkids ask what I did when the fascists came for our democracy, I'll be able to say I half-heartedly joined a poorly attended rally that seemed more about Palestine (worthy cause tho it is, obvs) than Trump.

Pop into the London Centre at the Guildhall to see the great exhibition about City of London planning and the model of London, which is fascinating. What a great city!

Gutted I won't be in London for the victory parade. Again. Had to make do with commiserating with the German team last time in Frankfurt. This time I'm holidaying.

Trains to Cambridge from LST need more bike spaces. So easy to achieve, just put flip down seats on both sides of the bike space.

Today's cycle was mainly along canal tow paths and disused railways. Old infrastructure. But also included two beautiful new gems - the elegant 3.4km HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct and everyone's favourite, Lizzie Line.

Took the Weaver line to Chingford to walk to Waltham Cross. Amazing how my mental image differed from reality. Tebbit to blame, of course.

She got elected! Congratulations Leyla - go shake them out of their smug complacency.

Voted in the City of London Corporation election. Maddest incarnation of democracy ever. The hustings yesterday was full of men in suits and gilt-trimmed costumes congratulating themselves on how marvellous they are.
Voted for a fresh voice @leylaboulton.bsky.social @britainelects.com

Garmin is down. My life is now pointless.

My 2024 cycling (indoor and out) distance target was the circumference of the earth. After 6 weeks recovering from a cracked pelvis in September, I thought it was out of reach but mad zwift efforts at the end of the year got me there.

Don't ask for my help. I know nothing and can't shout this far

While I can't do my #bigridehome, we have made it to Dover - Martin riding, me taking trains and taxis. Ellie has now taken my bike and she and @martincampbell2.bsky.social are going to ride to Canterbury and then on to London tomorrow and this makes me feel a bit better about everything.

After my week of trying to use Belgian trains with a bike and an injured back, I've decided all SNCB's rolling stock belongs in a museum! How is it possible to have trains, even IC trains, that are so inaccessible?!
September 5, 2024 at 4:19 PM
Today, @martincampbell2.bsky.social, put broken me, my bike and my bags on the crappy Belgian train at Beringen, rode on, then diverted his ride by 20km to rescue me at Mol where a lift was broken so I couldn't change platforms. He put me on the next crappy train before continuing his ride. My hero.
September 4, 2024 at 3:36 PM
Belgium, you love cycling, so why are your trains so inaccessible. I don't think I could get my bike up here without help even if I didn't have a broken back.

But it is also part of the German ADFC Bett + Bike network (why we chose it) so has all the facilities we need for bike touring including a laundry and workshop space.

And relaxing in a Koblenz Biergarten with Alkoholfrei and Schnitzel at the end of 145km of gentle pedalling in the late summer sun. Perfekt.
