From the very start when the Assad regime fell over a year ago, the new Syrian government has continuously signalled to the Israelis over and over again that they want to pursue a policy of peace. And the Israeli government has in turn pursued nothing but instigating and escalating conflict. Insane.

I really don't like DNA ancestry stuff. The best thing still is to go to the archive and dig through who your family were.
I would say more Americans are aware nowadays, because of things like Ancestry, and 23 and Me. Though a lot of Americans are mutts so it’s hard to claim a specific heritage based on genes, and usually has more to do with the family story. Like where one or both of the great grandparents came from.

I imagine if you are from a group of people that has been historically disenfranchised, the idea of heritage makes more sense. But more in the sense that you owe it to those who came before you to be free and never forget their struggles?
I can’t speak for every American, but as a Polish/Czech American I value my family history and the handful of ethnic traditions passed down from my parents and grandparents. Those are things that make my American story unique. Though I’m not sure if all Americans are as aware of their roots?

The idea that I had to continue something my ancestors believed in or did, never made sense to me. And the idea that the dead somehow hold sovereignty over their descendants seems downright tyrannical to me.

Thing is, they don't give a damn. Russia is a place where human life has no value. They have been more than happy to throw away 1000 men per day, in some months 2000 men per day. And they are more than happy to continue doing so.
