@kin110uofr.bsky.social Week 12. As a camp counselour This summers extreme heat and smog greatly impacted me and my job. We had multiple incidents of leaders and campers getting heat stroke or having asthma flare ups due to prolonged exposure to such extreme weather. (1/2)

@kin110uofr.bsky.social Week 11. Government involvement is a vital aspect of community sport and recreation. By supporting parks, walkable cities, and functional fitness our government could increase the average health of our citizens and remove some of the economic stress cause by healthcare taxes.

@kin110uofr.bsky.social week 10. TSN and sportsnet have a strangle hold on Canadian sport television. This has led to them being able to black out broadcasts behind a pay wall and stop fans from watching their teams. As a Maple Leafs fan I rarely get to watch my team play.

@kin110uofr.bsky.social Week 9 Violence. Ray Lewis is a twotime superbowl champion, a hall of famer, and one of the greatest linebackers of all time. He was charged with 2 counts of murder 4 years into his career and would go on to play 12 more seasons. (1/2)

@kin110uofr.bsky.social Week 8. As discussed in class sports can be a great platform for social justice even when at the time it may be seen as deviance. Jesse Owen’s famously won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Doing this as a black man in the 30’s in front of a facist regime.

@kin110uofr.bsky.social Health and sport. The NHL and hockey culture in general has had a long history of overlooking and ignoring injuries. Often being proudly refered to as a 'mans sport' it is not uncommon for hockey players at any level to downplay or even ignore both minor and major injuries.

This is disgusting, the nhl can pretend to care about victims all it wants but these things will continue to happen until hockey culture is rebuilt from the ground up.

Michael McLeod expected to sign with Hurricanes (and Carter Hart could join him) - Dose.ca
We know that there are a few players from the 2018 edition of Team Canada Junior who were recently found not guilty under the conditions we know about, so this opens the door to their return to the NH...

The definition of sport is a complicated question but one that I think is ultimately unimportant. It seems unlikely that a true consensus can ever be reached on what is or isn’t a sport. As long as everyone has their own personal definition and is willing to hear each other out. Thats what matters.
