I posted it hours ago in my local indivisible group (after responding to one too many protest-scolding posts smh) and went to see why I hadn’t gotten any notification pings in what’s usually a very active group… well…

Amen to all of this. It’s the relational human piece AND the intellectual work that is at the center of actually teaching anything!

Yesterday I recommended a teacher on Facebook who was struggling w teaching text analysis try out the Fishtank curriculum as a starting point. They replied:

I mean my local paper just published a totally serious laudatory article on the massive new jail that got pushed thru a third ballot measure(after failing 2x) — with 4 paragraphs from construction lobbyists on how it’s gonna create so many jobs (no quotes from the many who fought the measure ofc)

The article itself is a mess, a cowardly headline, no context on Elon support for Nazi political parties and accounts, and flagrant misrepresentation of what scholars of fascism have been saying about the blatant Nazi salute. Or that Elon literally mocked the ADL’s shameful response.
The Anti-Defamation League, an antisemitism and human rights watchdog, called it an “awkward gesture” and urged caution in jumping to conclusions.
