Spotted Turtles in the southeast are present (sometimes abundant), but notoriously tough to detect; the concentration of sympatrics can overwhelm traps, and the abundant food resources make for a narrower capture window in the spring. #wildlifebiology #clemmys #conservation #turtles

They look like sliders and cooters, but chicken turtles are different altogether. This species specializes in disjunct seasonal ponds, and can spend MOST of the year out of water. Their thin shells allow them to travel on land more easily, but makes them vulnerable to predation. #turtles #wildlife

You see, I love creating stickers based on my turtle photographs. 🐢

But this one caused quite a stir on my Instagram because everyone thought it was NSFW. 😂

They are basking together! I tried to make it better with a different placement…but no luck! 😅

What is happening here? 🐢

A few years ago, in late October, I came across this snapping turtle covered in mud!

This turtle probably picked an overwintering spot which later dried out. So the turtle moved to a new spot!

Turtles brumate underwater or on land sometimes (e.g., hatchlings). 🐢
