My parents were career artists, self-identified cartoonists. They never forced me to pick up the pencil as a kid but they were really good at stressing the importance of art and how much of it exists literally everywhere. I just picked up on how conscious they both were of art’s constant application

if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.
allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace
