lady audley's secret is one hell of a book. can't tell you how often it's made me laugh, and while braddon is given to purple prose, it's damned gorgeous

17) No Mud, No Lotus by Thích Nhất Hạnh

my favorite of Thích Nhất Hạnh's books because of the mud-and-lotus metaphor. ❤️

16) Vita Nostra by Marína and Sergey Dyachenko

on this list because i'm still confused as to what the book was trying to say. the imagery was cool as hell tho. maybe i'll reread it.

15) Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

the way binti and her family can work math like magic (treeing) left a deep impression on me. one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy trilogies.

14) Masquerade by Kit Williams

truly a work of art even if the actual geocaching mystery was eventually shrouded in scandal

12) Chain Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah

a modern classic. i still think about this book and all of its haunting footnotes about imprisonment and slavery and profit

11) The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

i just love this book. the narration, the beauty of the prose, the story.

10) The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

it's a visual novel! it counts!!! a beautiful depiction of learning to trust one's own instincts, especially when it comes to trusting another, and how ugliness can fester if allowed to scab over unexamined
