A tired, grumpy hobby writer/artist. Perpetually fed up with IRL. Enjoys expensive dairy products a bit too much. Gout sucks.

I am not here to look at politics, I am here to look at music, games, art, and other creative material.
I feel like I could flick a lit match at the man and watch him catch fire instantly from how greasy he looks. Very nice work.

Updated the Jackal-cloned robit and added a 'human-friendly' paint scheme.

I'm leaning towards the latter explanation, personally. The amount of effort put into the front fits the idea that Academy did their utmost to be as accurate as reasonably possible.

The KMC design is probably going to need a second or third pass. I'm not super satisfied with the legs.

This is an astounding level of research, Rob. I hadn't expected the action figure to be more accurate than a model kit.

Hammered it out some more. Now featuring: Mar Sara Militia Marine/Firebat, Umojan Protectorate Marine (leaning more towards NASApunk/Atompunk), and KMC Marine (Farm/Industrial equipment).

I'd honestly love to see a finalized version. The action figure was an angle I honestly hadn't considered; most of my experience with those largely set them as being a bit too off-model, since the designer wanted to make a play-worthy toy.

Understandable. I'm mostly working with headcanon for my own Starcraft-related projects, since the source material is... iffy in regards to anything but the Terran Confeds and Dominion, and I'm loathe to use SC2 since they took a completely different direction for that segment of the setting.

Delightfully chunky design, though I don't understand the provenance of Mech Heelies.

Very solid work. Does this end at the bust level, or is the design whole enough to refer to the limb and rear design?

One of my absolute favorite starfighter designs. It absolutely feels like it could slip right into any science fiction setting without overturning the local aesthetic.
On the topic, I'm curious how you might depict the other native Terran designs, like the Hellhound of the KMC.

A running theme, I recall, is that if a book had a dog on the cover or as a major character, it was pretty likely said dog will die, because apparently readers aren't allowed to have nice things.

From what I recall of my own middle school experience, of which I have deliberately censored from my own mind... not really? Most of the stuff my own classes ended up reading was stuff like Jack London's Call of the Wild, but I also distinctly recall that budget was a concern.

So THAT's why my attempts to draw the damn thing back in the day never felt right! I thought it was purely my own incompetence at the time, but that explains entirely too much about how it's so damn difficult to capture the magnificent hammerhead brick.

The ball joints were an... inspired choice by the Ghost devs. I don't love it, but it definitely does add a bit more character to an otherwise fairly stiff-looking hip assembly. Otherwise, yeah, this does establish that the Ghost devs enjoyed a higher level of source material access than any fan.

And he immediately whips out the best damn reference I could have asked for. Excellent work, Rob, though I would also love to see your take on the high-detail CGI model.
November 5, 2025 at 2:37 AM
SC: Ghost does have a lot of art direction that feels more StarCraft than the sequel RTS ever did. That said, the proportions were a lot more Rescue Hero-like than I could tolerate for the setting, and it also set a lot of Starcraft 2's direction, which makes me grumpy.

I'd honestly love to see a lineup of these SC1-compliant models. It's a giant pain to find good images of the original Vulture, and I love it to bits for being such a cool-ass space motorcycle.
November 5, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Delightful work, Howie.
November 5, 2025 at 1:27 AM
It's a bit heavy on the lens flare, but it's solid otherwise.

EGG. A militarized Command Center and an Overlord Dropship made to be more compatible with the StarCraft aesthetic.

It's always a joy to see two of StarCraft 1's most recognizable units be given this sort of love.

I kinda want to cook up a modular reference sheet for non-paint customization that includes the Medic and Firebat equipment.
