I know all the US soccer pundits are doing victory laps over the draw, and penciling the US into the quarters already, but they need to pump the breaks. Yes, the US avoids the Pot 1 powers, but there's also no guaranteed 3 points. Instead, you basically have a group of 4 evenly matched Pot 2 teams.

I love how FIFA puts on these World Cup press events with people who clearly have a questionable grasp of English, and ask them questions they barely understand, and instead of answering the actual question they just offer weird generalized platitudes the best they can with the tools they have.

Honestly, Group D was the best possible draw for Australia. You get the US instead of one of the other pot A powers, and because you get the US, all of your group stage games are on the west coast, making travel easier for the team and your fans.
