Everyone had walked by this student, oblivious to the bubbling emotional turmoil the student was experiencing. Except the dog. The dog knew through smell or small visual cues that student was at a breaking point. The dog had a job to do. And it did good work that day. Data can explain why dogs are an important tool in human welfare and wellbeing, but it is the stories that make us understand. Maybe we don't deserve dogs. But the fact their ancestors picked us as partners makes us thankful each and every single day.
