These fish typically use a modified dorsal fin ray that acts as a fishing rod with a glowing lure (bioluminescent bait) to attract prey close by.
The fish can swallow prey up to twice its own size.

Oregonians who live along the coast spent hours late Saturday night attempting to save a young humpback whale that became stranded near San Marine State Park, just north of Yachats in Lincoln County.
Dozens of people attempt to save stranded humpback whale on Oregon Coast
Authorities say chances are “slim to none” that the young whale survives. The whale had been caught in fishing nets.
